Louisiana Tech’s Shanavia Dowdell and Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross have been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region 7 Team.
The WAC Player of the Year and MVP of the WAC Tournament, Dowdell is averaging 17.6 points on 52 percent shooting to go with and 12.5 rebounds per game. She leads the nation with 21 double-doubles on the year. Last week, she pulled down her 1,000th career rebound and is the WAC's all-time leader in the category.
Ross is averaging 17.7 points on 49 percent shooting. The WAC Defensive Player of the Year, she ranks ninth nationally with 3.1 three-pointers per game and earlier this year became the Bulldog leader in that category as just a junior. She has 286 on her career.
The pair are two of four honorees in the region and two of 52 honorees nationwide. On Tuesday, March 23, the 52 candidates will be cut to 40 finalists who will be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.
