Katie Holverson tossed her first career no-hitter as the Nevada softball team blanked Colorado State 1-0 on Friday at the Capital Classic.

Holverson’s no-hitter is just the fourth in Nevada history and the first seven-inning no-hitter since the program was brought back in 2003.

Holverson struck out six and walked just two as she faced only one batter over the minimum.

Nevada got the only run of the game in the sixth inning. Noelle Micka led off with a single and moved to second on Danielle Patrick’s sacrifice bunt. Sam Bias then laced a single into center and Micka beat the throw at the plate to give Nevada the 1-0 lead.

It is Nevada’s fourth no-hitter in as many years.

Jordan McPherson got the first no-hitter in 2007 with a 10-5, five-inning win over San Jose State. In 2008, McPherson and Villescas combined on an 8-0, five-inning no-hitter against Louisiana Tech. Last year, Mallary Darby tossed a five-inning no-hitter at Boise State in an 8-0 win.

Nevada improved to 11-11 on the year and won its fifth straight game. CSU fell to 18-9. Holverson improved to 5-6 with the win.
