DENVER - Boise State's
Blake Brown and Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro have been named the Verizon Wireless Western
Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for March 15-21.
Brown, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz. (Horizon
HS), tied for fifth place at the Denver Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz. Brown finished with a 6-under par 210
(68-73-69) for the three rounds, posting two rounds under par. The field included 102 players from 17 teams.
Mortellaro, a sophomore from Phoenix,
Ariz. (Mesa Distance Learning), won the Northern Migration Invitational in
Florence, Ariz., by three strokes after carding a 5-under par 211
(68-70-73). Her 68 in the first round
tied for the lowest by any golfer in the tournament during the three
rounds. Mortellaro finished 10 strokes
ahead of the third place golfer and helped her team to a second place finish,
one stroke behind team champion UTSA. Of
the 19 teams in the field, eight were ranked in the top 100.
