STARKVILLE, Miss. – Hawai`i freshman shortstop Jessica Iwata has been named as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for games played between April 5-11.
Iwata went 12-for-20 on the week with nine runs, 17 RBI, two doubles, six home runs, two grand slams and two walks. She finished the week with a 1.600 slugging percentage, a .636 on-base percentage and a .600 batting average.
The Lihue, Hawai`i, native hit safely in all five of her games this week, including recording multiple hits in four of those games and multiple RBI in three. In the Rainbow Wahine’s final game against Boise State on Saturday, Iwata went yard on three separate occasions and drove in a school single-game record eight RBI.
Hawai`i finished last week with a perfect 5-0 record and will enter this week at 33-11 overall and 11-0 in the WAC. The Rainbow Wahine who were edged by Louisville for the final spot in the latest USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll are currently on an 11-game winning streak.
