DENVER – Utah State’s Nick Karren and Idaho’s Jeremy Klas have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 5-11.

Karren, a senior from Duchasne, Utah (Duchesne HS), won the 400-meter hurdles at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. last week with a season-best and WAC-leading time of 51.30 seconds. Karren also finished sixth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.27. The senior’s 110m result ranks second in the WAC.

Klas, a sophomore from Moscow, Idaho (Moscow HS), won the pole vault at the WAR3 (Washington vs. Oregon/Idaho/Montana) Regional Duals in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday. Klas cleared a WAC-leading 5.10 meters (16 feet, 8.75 inches) to win the title. The height is an outdoor personal best for the sophomore and moves him into a tie for second all-time at Idaho in the event.

Other track nominees included: Boise State’s Sawyer Bosch, Fresno State’s Val-Pierre Dai’Re, Idaho’s Paul Dittmer and Louisiana Tech’s Demonte Willis.

Other field nominees included: Boise State’s Zacharias Arnos, Fresno State’s Tim Greene, Louisiana Tech’s Larry Jones and Utah State’s Daniel Cruz.
