ROSS NAMED HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICAN
Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross was named an honorable mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She becomes the first Fresno State player ever to receive the honor. The Bulldogs have now had two All-Americans in the last three years as Tierre Wilson earned honorable mention All-America honors by the Associated Press in 2007-08.

A three-time all-WAC honoree, Ross was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year. She averaged 17.4 points and scored 592 points, the second-most points scored in a season by a Bulldog. During the season, she became the Fresno State career three-pointer leader, breaking Lindsay Logan’s record of 272. She now has 287 treys on her career and needs nine to move into third place in the WAC record books. She also broke her own single-season record by hitting 103 this year. The 103 three-pointers ties Utah’s Julie Krommenhoek for the second-most in a year in WAC history.

WIGGINS NAMED REGION COACH OF THE YEAR
After leading his team to its first-ever at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, Fresno State head coach Adrian Wiggins was selected as the WBCA Region 7 Coach of the Year. WEATHERSPOON NAMED WBCA ROOKIE COACH OF THE YEAR
Louisiana Tech head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was honored by the WBCA as the 2010 Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year. The award honors a WBCA Division I head coach who has led their team to a successful season during their first year at the helm. In her first full season at LA Tech, Weatherspoon led the Lady Techsters to a 23-9 mark, a second-place regular-season finish in the WAC and the WAC Tournament title. Her team went on to make its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2006. LA Tech went an impressive 10-4 on the road this year, and of the nine losses the Lady Techsters had on the season, four came by four points or less, including a four-point loss to Sweet 16 participant Mississippi State, a three-point loss to NCAA Tournament participant LSU and a 10-point loss to Final Four participant Baylor.

The Maggie Dixon Rookie Coach of the Year award is in honor of the late Maggie Dixon, former Army head coach, whose success during her inaugural year at the Army helm was remarkable. The Black Knights won the Patriot League title in 2006 and Dixon was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year after leading Army to the NCAA Tournament for the first time at the NCAA Division I level. Coach Dixon passed away on April 6, 2006, just a few weeks following their appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

FRESNO STATE COMPLETES PERFECT SEASON IN WAC PLAY

After going a perfect 16-0 in WAC play, Fresno State claimed the WAC regular-season title and the top seed in the WAC Tournament. The Bulldogs became the fourth team ever to post an undefeated mark in WAC play. Fresno State’s previous best record in the WAC was 14-2, posted in 2007-08 and 2005-06.

ROSS BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD FOR CAREER THREE-POINTERS MADE
Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross set the school record for three-pointers in a career at the 14:32 mark at Boise State on Feb. 27, giving Fresno State a 64-40 lead. DOWDELL TOPS NATION IN DOUBLE-DOUBLES, THIRD IN REBOUNDING
Reigning WAC Player of the Year Shanavia Dowdell led the nation with 22 doubles-doubles, including 14 of the 16 WAC games. She also ranked third nationally in rebounding (12.4), 28th in field goal percentage (52.7) and 40th in scoring (18.0).

FRESNO STATE RANKED FIFTH IN FINAL ESPN MID-MAJOR TOP 10
Fresno State was ranked fifth in the final ESPN.com Mid-Major Poll. Graham Hays had this to say about the Bulldogs: “The Bulldogs have a distinct style and one they execute well, averaging nearly 25 3-point attempts and forcing 20 turnovers per game. They aren’t necessarily equipped to win games in March in the paint -- they were out-rebounded in four of their five high-profile losses, often by significant margins -- but they still finished with a positive rebounding margin for the season. That accomplishment, combined with the perfect conference record, seems suggestive of a team that isn’t going to lose focus or beat itself. Junior star Jaleesa Ross fits that bill, doing pretty much everything well.”

HARRIS ENDS CAREER IN WAC TOP 10 IN CAREER SCORING, FREE THROWS
Boise State senior Tasha Harris closed out her career with 1,751 career points, good for ninth place all-time in the WAC. She also had 483 made free throws on her career, good for fifth place all-time in the WAC.

In doing so, she took sole possession of the Aggie career record for blocked shots. Johnson now has 133 career blocks and 48 blocks this season, which places her tied for third on USU’s single-season charts.

BOISE STATE’S HARRIS, VAN HOOGEN NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

After Nevada took its first lead of the game, 56-55, with 1:23 remaining Spence sank a shot from the lane on NM State’s next possession to reach the millennial mark with 67 ticks on the clock. The Utah State record was 12 steals set by Carol Garrison in 1981. Coddington added 13 points for her first double-double of the season. The record-breaking steal came with 5:24 remaining in the game, while the 13 is one shy of the NCAA record.
