DENVER – Louisiana Tech’s Antoinette Cobb and Idaho’s Ulrike Hartz have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 29-April 4.

Cobb, a senior from Weyanoke, La. (West Feliciana HS), broke the Louisiana Tech school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.22 seconds, finishing second at the Texas Relays last week. Cobb’s second-place finish was the highest of any amateur/collegian athlete as she finished behind Lauren Smith, a former hurdler from Houston who currently runs professionally. With the mark of 13.22, Cobb is ranked eighth nationally and owns the fastest 100m hurdles time of any WAC athlete since 1999.

Hartz, a junior from Fürth, Germany (Martin Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg), finished second in the ‘B’ section of the women’s javelin throw at the Texas Relays on Saturday with a toss of 47.96 meters (157 feet, 4 inches). The throw is the best in the WAC so far this season by more than two feet and ranks 21st in the NCAA. It also improves her standing as second all-time at Idaho, as it is the best throw by a Vandal since 2005 when Manuela Kurrat threw the school record of 159-1.

Other track nominees included: Boise State’s Megan Olivetti, Fresno State’s Stevie Brumwell, Idaho’s Christie Gordon and Utah State’s Elaine Connolly.

Other field nominees included: Boise State’s Mele Vaisima, Fresno State’s Rosario Sanchez, Hawai‘i’s Amber Kaufman, Louisiana Tech’s Quatisha Williams and Utah State’s Shannon Prince.
