Verizon WAC Women' Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Hawai‘i’s Thalia Amanakis and Idaho’s K. C. Dahlgren have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of May 3 – May 9.

Amanakis, a senior from Sydney, Australia (Tangara School for Girls), posted a season-best time of 59.63 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles at the Occidental Invitational in Eagle Rock, Calif. on Saturday. Amanakis’ time leads the WAC and ranks 17th in the NCAA West First Round Championships performance list. The senior also ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.11 at the meet.

Dahlgren, a senior from Missoula, Mont. (Big Sky HS), won the women’s pole vault with a season-best and WAC-leading mark of 13 feet, 0.25 inches (3.97 meters) at the Vandal Jamboree in Moscow, Idaho over the weekend. Dahlgren’s mark is the top clearance in the conference by a four-inch margin. She is the only female WAC athlete to clear 13 feet in the event this year.

Other track nominees included: Idaho’s Kelly Jacka and Utah State’s Hollie Bosworth.
