RUSTON, La. -  Louisiana Tech’s women and Utah State’s men won the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex on the campus of Louisiana Tech. For the women, host Lousiana Tech won its sixth consecutive WAC outdoor championship title, tallying a school-record 194 points. Idaho placed second with a school-high 175.5 points. Boise State posted 93 points for third place, its highest outdoor finish. Utah State came in fourth for the third consecutive year, recording 80 points. Hawai`i placed fifth for the second consecutive year, tallying 74.5 points. Fresno State finished in sixth place with 69 points, and Nevada and New Mexico State each earned 66 points to tie for seventh place. On the men’s side, Utah State won its second consecutive and third-overall WAC outdoor championship title, compiling 173 points for the crown. Boise State finished second with 141 points, improving on last year’s fifth-place finish. Host Louisiana Tech placed third for the fourth consecutive year, tallying 128 points. Fresno State earned 113 points for a fifth consecutive fourth place finish, followed by Idaho in fifth place with 92 points.

For the women’s individual awards (voted upon by the coaches), Idaho’s Allix Lee-Painter garnered Outstanding Track Performer as well as the High Point Award (30 points). Fellow Vandal Ulrike Hartz took home the Outstanding Field Performer award. Louisana Tech’s Quanisha Sales won Freshman of the Year honors, while her coach, Louisiana Tech’s Gary Stanley, was named Coach of the Year.

For the men’s individual awards (voted upon by the coaches), Louisiana Tech’s Albert Fullwood took home Outstanding Track Performer honors, while the Outstanding Field Performer award went to Boise State’s Kurt Felix. Felix also tallied 38 points to earn the High Point Award. Lousiana Tech’s Josh Goree was named the Freshman of the Year, and Utah State’s Gregg Gensel garnered Coach of the Year honors.

For the women, the final day of the championship started with the women’s hammer throw. Idaho sophomore Gabby Midles captured the gold with a season-best heave of 58.92 meters (193 feet, four inches). Fresno State freshman J’Quyra Moncur-Blue nabbed silver with a toss of 54.31m (178-02). Hawai`i sophomore Emma MacCorquodale earned bronze with a mark of 54.16m (177-08).

In the women’s triple jump, Boise State senior Eleni Kafourou won her fourth gold in the event in five years with a season-best leap of 13.29m (43-07.25). Louisiana Tech junior Brittany Guy won silver with a mark of 12.66m (41-06.50), and fellow Lady Techster junior Quatisha Williams nabbed bronze with a jump of 12.62m (41-05.00).

For the eighth straight year, the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters grabbed the 4x100-meter relay title. The Tech relay team of Nancy Shelton, Quanisha Sales, Rakeisha Green and Chasidee Lewis-Baker finished in a season-best 44.43. Idaho took second place with a season-best time of 46.35, edging out Boise State who finished in a season-best time of 46.35 for third place.

In the women’s 1,500m race, Nevada freshman Samantha Diaz captured the Wolf Pack’s first gold of the championship, finishing with a time of 4:37.32. Fresno State senior Roxanne Sellick took silver, posting a time of 4:37.61. Utah State senior Erin Stratton earned bronze with a time of 4:38.82.

Louisiana Tech Antoinette Cobb ran a school-record and season-best time of 13.07 in the women’s 100m hurdles to claim the title for the third straight year. Cobb’s time, which currently ranks sixth in the NCAA, is the fastest WAC championship 100m hurdle time since 1999. Idaho senior Christie Gordon nabbed second place with a time of 13.48, and Boise State freshman Marjani Maldonado took third place with a season-best time of 13.73.

Louisiana Tech swept the podium in the women’s 400-meter dash. Lady Techster senior Kamelia Stroy won her third consecutive WAC title, crossing the finish line in 54.62. Teammates Lashannda Worthy (54.88) and Monique Wright (55.12) garnered second and third places, respectively.

Louisiana Tech took the top six places in the women’s 100m dash, moving the Lady Techsters into the team lead. Tech freshman Quanisha Sales finished with a season-best time of 11.45 to claim the title. Teammate Chasidee Lewis-Baker ran a time of 11.61 for second. Senior Antoinette Cobb grabbed her second medal of the championship, posting a time of 11.67 for third place.

In the women’s 800-meter run, Idaho sophomore Lauren Schaffer crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 2:07.33 to claim the title. Utah State senior Elaine Connolly turned in a season-best time of 2:09.06 for second place, and Aggie teammate Jessie Chugg posted a time of 2:12.00 for third.

In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Fresno State sophomore Latrisha Jordan won her second consecutive WAC title, posting a season-best time of 59.20. Hawai`i senior Thalia Amanakis took second with a time of 59.67, and Louisiana Tech junior Shante Benion nabbed third, finishing in 1:00.46.

Louisiana Tech swept the podium in the women’s 200-meter dash, as freshman Quanisha Sales won the gold with a time of 23.69. Teammate Antoinette Cobb picked up her third medal of the championship (xx), posting a time of 23.92 for silver. One-thousandth of a second decided third and fourth places, as Louisiana Tech junior Nancy Shelton edged out Fresno State freshman Breeauna Thompson for third place (both finishing in 24.00 seconds, broken down into 23.998 and 23.999).

In the women’s high jump, Hawai`i junior Amber Kaufman won her third consecutive WAC title, clearing 1.83m (6-00.00) to grab the championship. Teammate Sarah Saddleton nabbed second with a season-best mark of 1.80m (5-10.75), and Nevada sophomore Avery La Tijera took third, clearing 1.74m (5-08.50).

Hawai`i sophomore TeRina Keenan claimed the women’s discus gold with a season-best throw of 53.76m (176-04). Utah State junior Shannon Prince took silver with a mark of 48.08m (157-09), and Boise State freshman Alyssa Osai grabbed bronze with a toss of 44.19m (145-00).

In the women’s 5,000-meter run, Idaho senior Allix Lee-Painter added to her point total, leading the field to claim the title with a time of 17:06.92. New Mexico State sisters Courtney and Camille Schultz posted times of 17:16.94 and 17:24.27 to finish in second and third places, respectively.

n the last women’s race of the night, the 4x400m relay, the Louisiana Tech team of Monique Wright, Kamelia Stroy, Lashannda Worthy and Shante Benion won the title with a time of 3:40.02. Last year’s champion, Fresno State, came in second with a season-best time of  3:42.43. Idaho posted a season-best time of 3:44.28 for third place.

For the men, the final day of the championship started with the men’s pole vault. Idaho sophomore Jeremy Klas captured the gold, clearing 5.09m (16-08.25). Second and third places were decided on number of attempts, as Utah State sophomore John Johnson and Fresno State junior David Deal both cleared a season-best height of 4.79m (15-08.50) for second and third, respectively.

In the men’s javelin, Boise State became a three-time WAC javelin champion, posting a season-best mark of 70.12m (230-01). Boise State junior Kurt Felix grabbed his fourth medal of the championship (decathlon, long jump, high jump) with a season-best throw of 67.16m (220-04) for second place. Louisiana Tech senior Justin Martin posted a mark of 61.95m (203-03) to nab third place.

In the men’s 4x100-meter relay, Louisiana Tech’s team of Albert Fullwood, Kevin Stewart, Josh Goree and Terry Carter posted a season-best 39.89 to claim the title. Utah State grabbed second place with a season-best time of 40.05, and Fresno State finished in 41.05 to take third.

Fresno State senior Frank Sanders won his third consecutive gold in the men’s 1,500-meter run, finishing in 3:49.61 to grab the title. Utah State junior Eric Larson ran 3:51.07 to take second, edging out Fresno State sophomore Eric Battles who posted a season-best time of 3:51.27 for third place.

In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Idaho junior Paul Dittmer grabbed the championship with a time of 13.92. Utah State senior Nick Karren took second place with a time of 14.32, edging out teammate Dylan Nielson who crossed the line in 13.33 for third place.

Louisiana Tech senior Albert Fullwood became a four-time WAC 400-meter dash champion, posting a time of 46.61 for the title. Bulldog teammates Justin Terry and Josh Goree made it a pdium sweep, as Terry finished in 47.26 for second and Goree ran a season-best time of 48.31 for third place.

Utah State stood atop the first two places of the podium in the men’s 100-meter dash. Junior Mike Pyrtle took home the gold with a time of 10.51, closely followed by teammate Armahd Lewis, who posted a season-best time of 10.53 for second. Idaho senior Sam Michener grabbed third with a season-best time of 10.61.

It was a trio of season-bests in the men’s 800-meters, Fresno State senior Frank Sanders picked up his second gold medal of the championship, coming from behind to force a close finish with a season-best time of 1:50.42. Idaho junior Josh Dalton posted a season-best time of 1:50.43 for silver, and Boise State sophomore Michael Walrath ran the race in a season-best time of 1:0.71 for bronze.

Utah State senior Nick Karren won his second consecutive men’s 400-meter hurdles title with a season-best time of 50.35, edging out Fresno State senior Val Pierre Dai’Re who posted a season-best time of 50.37 for second place. Louisiana Tech junior Marcelles Atkinson placed third with a season-best time of 51.67.

Louisiana Tech swept the podium in the men’s 200-meter dash, as senior Albert Fullwood won his third consecutive WAC title in the event with a season-best time of 20.71. Teammates Terry Carter (season-best 21.15) and Kevin Stewart 21.18) took second and third places, respectively.

In the men’s shot put, Utah State junior Joe Canavan claimed the gold with a throw of 18.37m (60-03.25). Idaho junior Eugenio Mannucci took the silver with a season-best toss of 17.74m (58-02.50), and Boise State sophomore Chase Sexton garnered bronze with a season-best mark of 16.87m (55-04.25).

In the men’s triple jump, Boise State senior Zacharias Arnos took home the title with a leap of 16.33m (53-07.00). Louisiana Tech junior Jonathan Keys grabbed second with a season-best jump of 15.01m (49-03.00). Boise State junior Kurt Felix picked up another medal, with a throw of 14.67m (48-01.75) for third place.

In the men’s 5,000 meter run, Fresno State junior Paul Zwama crossed the finish line in 14:26.15 (a season-best time) to capture the title. Utah State junior Brian McKenna finished close behind with a season-best time of 14:27.19. Fellow Aggie teammate Daniel Howell posted a time of 14:46.24 for third.

In the last men’s race of the night, the 4x400-meter relay, the Louisiana Tech team of Justin Terry, Wade MaGaha, Marcelles Atkinson and Albert Fullwood finished in 3:10.78 to take home the gold medals. Fresno State posted a season-best time of 3:12.62 for second place, while Boise State ran a season-best time of 3:12.94 to earn bronze.
