Men's Golf Season Comes To An End

Senior Jared Becher finished in a tie for fifth at the 2010 NCAA Men's Southwest Regional, held May 20-22 at the par-72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Course.

Becher shot a one-under 71 in Saturday's final round and finished in a tie for fifth at even-par 216 (74-71-71). He just missed earning a spot as an individual in the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, which will be held June 1-6 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge, who was also playing as an individual, took medalist honors in the event and earned the NCAA Southwest Regional's individual spot. He carded a one-over 73 Saturday and captured a one-stroke victory over Oregon's Daniel Miernicki at three-under 213 (71-69-73).

A 2010 first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection, Becher finishes his senior season with seven top 20 showings this year. He led the team with a 71.72 stroke average this season.

The New Mexico State men's golf team ended its 2009-10 season with a seventh place finish at the Southwest Regional. The Aggies shot a final round score of 9-over par, 297, finishing the tournament with a three round score of 31-over par, 895.

The Aggies' Tim Madigan led the team with a three round score of 4-over par, 220, finishing in a tie for 11th overall. Madigan carded a final round score of 2-over par, 74. Senior Ryan Word ended his collegiate career with a final round score of 4-over par, 76. Word finished tied for 33rd at 9-over par, 225.

Freshman Justin Shin rounded out his first season as an Aggie tying for 45th overall with a final score of 11-over par, 227. Shin recorded a 4-over par, 76 in the final round. Sophomore Gaston De La Torre had the low round of the day for the Aggies with a 1-under par, 71, finishing the tournament in a tie for 54th with a three round score of 14-over par, 230.

Freshman Justin Knauber ended his freshman campaign by finishing 71st overall with a three round score of 24-over par, 240. Knauber carded a final round score of 13-over par, 85.

Oregon won the team title with a 6-over par, 870, followed by Augusta State (+16), California (+22), Tennessee (+22) and UNLV (+22).

Despite posting a score eight strokes better that the second round, the Fresno State men's golf team couldn't make up any ground on the field in the final round of the NCAA West Regional at the Gold Mountain Course in Bremerton, Wash.

Fresno State shot a round of 294 and finished a three-round score of 914. The Dogs played better each round, opening with a 318 and a second round score of 302.

Sophomore Bhavik Patel (80-73-67--220) concluded a stellar sophomore season with a score of 67 in the final round, the second lowest round of any golfer in the field. He moved up 24 spots and tied for 24th place. Patel made five birdies and had an eagle on the sixth hole.

Bryan Hogan (79-73-76---228) was the second-highest finisher for the Dogs, tied for 54th place.

Brian Sunker (79-81-73--160) had the second-best final round of the Bulldogs with a 1-over par score of 73 round and tied for 67th place along with teammate Michael Gideon (80-75-78--233). Freshman Tim Toste (87-81-82--250) finished 75th.

Washington, led by three players in the top four on its home course, shot 20-under par for the tournament and won by 29 strokes.
