HAWAI`I WINS STANFORD REGIONAL, ADVANCES TO TUSCALOOSA SUPER REGIONAL
No. 16-seed Hawai`i won the Stanford Regional last weekend with wins over UC Davis (10-2), No. 15 Stanford (6-3) and Texas Tech (7-1). The Rainbow Wahine hit .366 with two doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 22 RBI over the three games. UH advances to the Tuscaloosa Super Regional, where it will face top-seeded Alabama (51-9) in a best-of-three series for the right to advance to the Women’s College World Series.

FRESNO STATE FALLS IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF LOS ANGELES REGIONAL
Fresno State went 2-2 at the Los Angeles Regional last weekend, falling 3-2 to San Diego State before defeating Saint Mary’s (6-0) and San Diego State (4-3) to advance to the championship game, where it fell to host UCLA, 7-2.

HAWAI`I WINS FIRST-EVER WAC TOURNAMENT
The Rainbow Wahine claimed their first-ever WAC Tournament title with a 14-3 win over Fresno State in the championship game May 15. Hawai`i had five homers in the game to extend its NCAA record. Kelly Majam was named tournament MVP after hitting .571 with three home runs and eight RBI over four games.

HAWAI`I SETS NCAA RECORD FOR HOME RUNS IN A SEASON
Hawai`i hit two home runs in a 16-2 win over Fresno State on May 14, bringing its season total to 136 to break the former NCAA record of 134 set last season by Arizona. UH tied the mark in its 54th game of the season, while Arizona needed 63 games last season. The Rainbow Wahine now have 149 long balls on the season.

Jessica Iwata’s record-breaking home run was a high-fly that snuck over the leftfield fence just inside the foul pole. Later in inning, Kelly Majam launched her first career grand slam. It was an opposite-field shot that sailed over the left-centerfield fence. The Rainbow Wahine now have 141 long balls this season.

ALL-WAC HONORS ANNOUNCED
Regular-season champion Hawai`i swept the WAC major awards, as Jessica Iwata was named WAC Player of the Year, Stephanie Ricketts was named Pitcher of the Year, Kelly Majam was named Freshman of the Year and Bob Coolen was named Coach of the Year.

Iwata, a freshman shortstop from Lihu’e, Kaua`i (Kaua`i), led the WAC with a .488 batting average and 1.050 slugging percentage in WAC play. She posted conference highs in hits (39), RBI (32), doubles (12), total bases (84) and at bats (80). She had multiple hits in 12 of 20 WAC games and posted an 11-game hitting streak during conference play.

Ricketts, a sophomore righthander from San Jose, Calif. (Archbishop Mitty), posted a perfect 13-0 record with a 1.55 ERA in WAC play. She had 52 strikeouts and three shutouts in 81.1 innings of work in conference games. She also tossed a perfect game against Nevada on April 24.

Majam, an outfielder from Pine Valley, Calif. (Mountain Empire), led the conference in runs scored (31), walks (16) and plate appearances (87), and ranked second in slugging percentage (.926) and on-base percentage (.529) in WAC play. She broke the WAC and Hawai`i records for home runs in a season (25).

Coolen earned Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career after leading his team to its third WAC regular-season title and the top seed in this week’s WAC Tournament. In WAC play, the Rainbow Wahine went 19-1 and led the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs, hits, RBI, home runs, total bases, wins, hits allowed, doubles allowed and triples allowed.

HAWAI`I CLAIMS WAC REGULAR-SEASON TITLE
Hawai`i won the WAC regular-season title and clinched the top seed in the WAC Tournament with a 5-0 win over Fresno State on April 30. The Rainbow Wahine completed WAC play with a 19-1 mark. It marks the third WAC regular-season crown for Hawai`i. The Rainbow Wahine previously won the title in 2003 and 2007. It is also the eighth time Hawai`i has hit the 40-win mark.

MOSES STRIKES OUT WAC SEASON-HIGH 18, BREAKS TWO SCHOOL RECORDS
Fresno State’s Michelle Moses notched a WAC season-high 18 strikeouts against Louisiana Tech on May 8. In doing so, she set the school record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game and set the record for consecutive strikeouts, as she struck out the first 13 batters of the game. Entering the 2010 season, there were only 23 other performances of 18 strikeouts or more in NCAA history.

HAWAI`I’S RICKETTS THROWS PERFECT GAME
Hawai`i sophomore pitcher Stephanie Ricketts fired her first career perfect game in the first half of a doubleheader at Nevada April 24 as the Rainbow Wahine picked up a 20-0 five-inning win. Ricketts got six fly outs, seven ground outs and two strikeouts. She threw just 53 pitches in the game and faced the minimum 15 batters. Ricketts also became the third pitcher in UH history to win 20 or more games twice.

SAN JOSE STATE BREAKS SCHOOL HOME RUN RECORD
Breanna Lopez hit her second home run of the season to help San Jose State break the school single-season team home run record April 23 vs. Utah State. The Spartans hit 38 home runs this year, breaking the previous record of 30 set by the 2006 team.

UH’S IWATA NAMED NFCA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hawai`i freshman shortstop Jessica Iwata was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week on April 13. Iwata went 12-for-20 (.600) with nine runs, 17 RBI, two doubles, six home runs, two grand slams and two walks. She finished the week with a 1.600 slugging percentage and .636 on-base percentage. She hit safely in all five of her games, including recording multiple hits in four of those games and multiple RBI in three. In the Rainbow Wahine’s final game against Boise State on Saturday, Iwata went yard on three separate occasions and drove in a school single-game record eight RBI.

COOLEN EARNS 700TH WIN AT HAWAI`I
Bob Coolen notched his 700th win at Hawai`i in the team’s win at Boise State on April 10. In his 19th season as the head coach of the Rainbow Wahine, Coolen now has a record of 714-425-1. Overall in 24 seasons as a head coach, he has amassed a 786-518-1 record.

MAJAM BREAKS UH AND WAC HOME RUN RECORDS
Hawai`i’s Kelly Majam hit her 24th home run of the season on April 18, breaking the WAC record of 23, set by Christina Clark of Fresno State in 2004. The freshman now has 29 long balls this season, good for first place in the nation.
 
HAWAI`I’S IWATA TIES TWO WAC SINGLE-GAME RECORDS
Hawai`i’s Jessica Iwata had eight RBI in the second April 10 game at Boise State, breaking the UH single-game record of seven held by Dana Degen (2004) and Cheyenne Thompson (1994). The eight RBI tied her for the WAC single-game record with Fresno State All-American Christina Clark. She also tied current teammate Amanda Tauali`i with a school- and conference-record three homers in the game.

HOLVERSON TOSSES FOURTH NO-HITTER IN THE WAC THIS SEASON
Nevada’s Katie Holverson tossed her first career no-hitter vs. Colorado State on March 19. Holverson’s no-hitter was just the fourth in Nevada history and the first seven-inning no-hitter since the program was brought back in 2003. Holverson struck out six and walked just two as she faced only one batter over the minimum.

KRIEG STRIKES OUT CAREER-HIGH 17 BATTERS
Louisiana Tech junior Meghan Krieg struck out a career-high 17 batter in a 10-inning 3-2 win over Mississippi Valley State March 17. She threw all 10 innings, allowing only four hits, two walks and one earned run on a solo home run for a 0.70 ERA. Krieg struck out at least one batter in nine of 10 innings and had two innings where she struck out the side.

OAKES THROWS PERFECT GAME
Fresno State pitcher Mackenzie Oakes threw the first perfect game of her career in a 3-0 win over Georgetown March 13. It was the 14th perfect game in Fresno State history. It was her second no-hitter of the season making her the first Bulldog since Robin Mackin in 2006 to throw two no-hitters in one year and the first since Jamie Southern in 2005 to throw a perfect game and a no-hitter in the same season.

MELLOH THROWS NO-HITTER
Fresno State junior Morgan Melloh became the 17th Bulldog and the first since Robin Mackin on March 8, 2007, to throw a no-hitter in game one of the Fresno State Kick-Off Feb. 13, a 1-0 win over Pacific. It was the 63rd no-hitter in school history. Melloh had 10 strikeouts and three walks in the game.

NM STATE PLATES 28 RUNS IN WIN OVER UT-SAN ANTONIO
New Mexico State set school records for runs scored in a game (28), hits in a game (26) and doubles in a game (6) as the Aggies defeated UTSA 28-7 on Feb. 13. Tiare Jennings led the attack, going 4-of-5 with four hits, four runs scored and one RBI. Tehani Kaaihue went 3-of-4 with four runs and four RBI, while Ashley Maroda hit two home runs, going 3-of-4 with four runs and four RBI.

OAKES TOSSES NO-HITTER
Fresno State’s Mackenzie Oakes pitched the first no-hitter of her career against Sacramento State on Feb. 14. It came one day after teammate Morgan Melloh threw a no-hitter. Oakes and Melloh became the first Fresno State pitchers since Kristen Hunter and Amanda Scott in 2000 to have two different pitchers threw no-hitters in the same season. It was also the first time since Carie Dever and Marcie Green in 1990 that two different pitchers threw no-hitters in back-to-back days.

WAITS SELECTED IN NATIONAL PRO FASTPITCH DRAFT
Louisiana Tech’s Amberly Waits recorded another program first on Feb. 10 when the senior shortstop was selected by the Chicago Bandits with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 National Pro Fastpitch College Senior Draft. Waits was taken by the Bandits with the final pick of the second round of the five-round draft, which was held in Kissimmee, Fla.

FRESNO STATE PICKED TO WIN 2010 WAC TITLE
The WAC softball coaches selected Fresno State to win the 2010 WAC regular-season crown. This is the 13th time in the last 15 years that the Bulldogs have been the preseason favorite to win the title.

Fresno State took the top spot in the preseason poll with 48 points and six first-place votes. Nevada came in second, picking up one first-place vote and 41 points, followed by Hawai`i in third place with 34 points. New Mexico State edged Louisiana Tech for fourth place with 29 points and the remaining first-place vote. San Jose State was picked to finish sixth with 19 points, followed by Boise State in seventh with 18 points. Utah rounded out the poll in eighth place with seven points.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS (29-32, 13-8 WAC)
The Broncos went 3-2 at the WAC Tournament, defeating New Mexico State 9-8, falling to Boise State 4-5, beating Louisiana Tech 8-2, defeating San Jose State 6-5 to Fresno State to be eliminated from the tournament ... Kathy Cox and Lela Work were named to the all-tournament team. Cox  hit .444 with four home runs and eight RBI over the five games, while Work was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and limited opponents to a .074 batting average ... Cox tied the WAC Tournament record for home runs in a game (two) and set record for homers in a tournament (four) and RBI in a tournament (eight) ... Kellie Caplan tied the WAC record for triples in a game with one against Fresno State, while Jessi Hanna tied the record for stolen bases in a tournament with three ... Boise State more than tripled its WAC win total from 2009, winning 13 games compared to four last year ... Both Aubray Zell (7) and Allie Crump (8) won more games in the circle than the Broncos did as a team in 2009.

FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS (41-21, 15-6 WAC)
The Bulldogs went 2-2 at the Los Angeles Regional last week, falling 3-2 to San Diego State before defeating Saint Mary’s (6-0) and San Diego State (4-3) to advance to the championship game, where it fell to host UCLA, 7-2 ... Michelle Moses hit .385 with four RBI and two homers over the four games ... Morgan Melloh went 1-0 in the circle, striking out 12 over 7.0 innings ... The Bulldogs remain the only team to have been selected to all 29 NCAA Tournament ... Fresno State finished second at the WAC Tournament, defeating Boise State 5-4, falling to Hawai`i 1-16 (5), beating Boise State 6-5, defeating Hawai`i 4-3 and losing to Hawai`i 3-14 (5) in the championship game ... Haley Gilleland, Michelle Moses and Caitlin Stiglich were named to the all-tournament team. Gilleland and Moses both hit .438 over the five games, while Stiglich hit .375 with two doubles and five RBI ... Brooke Phipps tied the WAC Tournament record for doubles in a game with two against Boise State.

HAWAI`I RAINBOW WAHINE  (47-13, 19-1 WAC)
The Rainbow Wahine defeated UC Davis (10-2), No. 15 Stanford (6-3) and Texas Tech (7-1) to win the Palo Alto Regional last weekend ... Hawai`i earned the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning its first-ever WAC Tournament ... In the first of three games at the Tournament against Fresno State, Jessica Iwata hit a home run that gave UH the NCAA record for homers in a season. The Rainbow Wahine now have 149 this year ... Iwata, Melissa Gonzalez, Katie Grimes and Kelly Majam were named to the all-tournament team, with Majam earning MVP honors ... Iwata set the WAC Tournament record for runs in a game (4), while Gonzalez set the records for runs in a tournament (8) and RBI in a game (6) ... Gonzalez also tied records for doubles in a game (2) and home runs in a game (2) ... Gonzalez, Majam and Alex Aguirre also tallied eight RBI over the four games, a new tournament record ... The No. 16-seed Rainbow Wahine face top-seeded Alabama in a best-of-three Super Regional this Friday and Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

LOUISIANA TECH TECHSTERS (26-21, 11-10 WAC)
The Lady Techsters went 0-2 at the WAC Tournament, falling 5-6 to San Jose State and 2-8 to Boise State to end their season ... In the game against the Spartans, Meghan Krieg set the LA Tech single-season strikeout record in the top of the fourth inning with her 255th of the year. She finished the season with 260 ... Krieg and Amberly Waits were both first team all-WAC selections ... As a team, LA Tech ranks 43rd nationally in home runs per game (0.91) ... Waits ranks 29th in the nation in batting average (.412) and 44th in on-base percentage (.506) ... Krieg ranks 32nd nationally in strikeouts (260) and 50th in hits allowed per seven innings (5.13) ... Waits closed out her career tied for second in the WAC record books in triples (19), fifth in slugging percentage (.671), sixth in doubles (47), seventh in hits (262), tied for seventh in home runs (36) and ninth in RBI (160).

NEVADA WOLF PACK  (17-28, 4-16 WAC)
The Wolf Pack went 1-2 against Boise State during the last weekend of the regular-season, winning the first game 9-8 (8), before dropping the next two games 1-8 and 0-11 to drop out of contention for the WAC Tournament and end their season ... In game one, Nevada made a dramatic comeback to win it in the ninth inning. The Wolf Pack trailed 8-3 in the seventh inning but scored five times to tie it and send the game into extra innings ... In game two, Boise State scored once in the first, three times in the second and twice in the third to open up a 6-0 lead and the Wolf Pack did not have a base runner until the fifth inning ... As a team, Nevada ranks 11th nationally in doubles per game (1.58) ... Kelsey Starr ranks 20th in the nation in doubles per game (0.33).

NEW MEXICO STATE AGGIES  (27-28, 7-14 WAC)
The Aggies went 0-2 at the WAC Tournament, falling 9-8 to Boise State and 9-8 to San Jose State ... Hoku Nohara tied the WAC Tournament record for homers in a game with two the Spartans ... As a team, the Aggies rank seventh nationally in double plays per game (0.45), 19th in batting average (.317), 18th in slugging percentage (.495), and 22nd in home runs per game (1.13) and scoring (5.84) ... Nohara ranks ninth in the nation in RBI per game (1.15), 12th in slugging percentage (.825), 29th in home runs (16), 31st in on-base percentage (.518) and 33rd in home runs per game (0.30) ... Kylie Randall is 41st in the country with 0.53 stolen bases per game ... Nohara ranks fourth in the WAC career record books in home runs (40) and sixth in slugging percentage (.657) ... Five Aggies earned all-WAC honors, led by Tiare Jennings on the first team, while Nohara, Randall, Angie Ortega and Kandis Jones were named to the second team.

SAN JOSE STATE SPARTANS  (34-25, 8-13 WAC)
The Spartans went 2-2 at the WAC Tournament, defeating Louisiana Tech 6-5, falling 8-16 (6) to Hawai`i, beating New Mexico State 9-8 and losing 6-5 to Boise State in an elimination game ... Kelli Fangonilo and Natasha Hawkins were named to the all-tournament team. Fangonilo hit .500 with two doubles, a homer and two RBI, while Hawkins hit .556 with three RBI and six walks over the four games ... Julianne Aiello and Brittany McConnell were named to the all-WAC second team ... As a team, San Jose State ranks sixth nationally in double plays per game (0.46), 23rd in doubles per game (1.49) and 47th in scoring (5.15) ... McConnell is seventh nationally with five sacrifice flies, while Amanda Pridmore ranks 10th in the nation in saves with four ... McConnell closed out her career ranked tied for seventh in the WAC career record books in RBI (166) and ninth in home runs (35).

UTAH STATE AGGIES (20-30, 5-14 WAC)
The Aggies closed out their season with a 9-1 five-inning loss to Brigham Young last Monday ... The Cougars scored at least one run in all five innings ... Utah State got on the board in the fourth when Nicole Rupp-Tindall scored on a sacrifice fly by fellow senior Simone Hubbard ... Utah State ends the season with a 20-30 ledger, its second 20-win season of the 2000s ... USU’s five league wins was tied for the most-ever league wins, matching the 2006 squad ... As a team, Utah State ranks 48th in the nation in triples per game (0.20) ... Shelbi Tyteca ranks 10th nationally with four saves, while Nicole Rupp-Tindall is 44th in the nation with four triples this season.
