WAC Softball Players of the Week Announced

DENVER – Boise State’s Tazz Weatherly and Louisiana Tech’s Meghan Krieg have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 26-May 2.

Weatherly, a sophomore center fielder from Stockton, Calif. (St. Mary’s HS), hit .500 (4-for-8), helping the Broncos to a 2-1 record against San Jose State. Weatherly came into the weekend with one career home run and hit two on Saturday against the Spartans. Weatherly recorded four hits, two home runs, three runs and six RBI and was hit by a pitch twice over the three games. She registered a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. Weatherly recorded her ninth multi-hit game of the year and her two multi-RBI performances on Saturday were her fourth and fifth of the season.

Krieg, a junior from Sonora, Texas (Sonora HS), went a perfect 2-0 on the week with a 1.50 ERA. Kreig allowed only nine hits and six walks in 14.0 innings of work while striking out 17 batters. She held Nevada to a .180 batting average on the weekend. In Tech’s 9-3 win over Nevada on Friday, Krieg allowed three runs – two earned – on seven hits and three walks while striking out 10 in the complete-game performance. On Saturday, Krieg was even more impressive, allowing only one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven in the complete-game victory.
