DENVER - Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Karl Benson today announced the hiring of Matt Burgemeister as the Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Governance.  Burgemeister replaces Anthony Archbald who accepted a Senior Associate Athletic Director position at Princeton University earlier this year.

Burgemeister spent the last four years at the NCAA working in Membership Services including the past two years as the Associate Director of Academic & Membership Affairs.  He earned his Master's degree at the University of Texas at Austin after graduating from the University of Utah with Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Political Science.

Burgemeister will oversee all compliance activities related to NCAA and WAC rules and regulations including the processing of all rules violations; managing WAC involvement in all aspects of NCAA governance and the National Letter of Intent program for conference members; coordinating on-going rules education and managing the conference's legislative processes and agenda. In addition, he will serve as the liaison for the Faculty Athletics Representatives and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (WAC SAAC).

Also announced today were two promotions.  David Chaffin was promoted from Assistant Commissioner to Associate Commissioner for Communications & Technology while Mollie Lehman was promoted from a Director position to Assistant Commissioner for Business & Operations.

Chaffin joined the WAC staff in 1995 and oversees the media relations department along with all technology related areas including the website, WAC.tv, video exchange and internal IT needs.  Lehman started her career with the WAC in August of 2007, managing the business and operations' aspects of the conference office.
