Hawai`i Softball Nominated for Best Upset ESPY
BRISTOL, Conn. – Hawai`i softball’s seventh inning upset of top-seeded Alabama in last month’s Tuscaloosa Super Regional has been nominated for “Best Upset” in the 2010 ESPY Awards.

The exciting win came when Jenna Rodriguez hit a two-out, two-run, walk-off home run and propelled the Rainbow Wahine to their first Women’s College World Series appearance.  Rodriguez drove in all five of UH’s runs in the winner-take-all game three, hitting a three-run bomb in the first inning and then the two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The day before, UH bounced back after an 8-0 loss in five innings to snap Alabama’s nation-leading 28-game win streak with a 8-7 win that forced the third game. The Hawai`i victory marked the first time since the inception of the Super Regionals in 2003 that the No. 1 seed did not advance to the WCWS.

Fans can select the ESPY winners by voting online at espn.com/espys or on the ESPN facebook page.

Also nominated are in the Best Upset category are:
Frankie Edgar's unanimous decision over B.J. Penn at UFC 112
Northern Iowa's upset of No. 1 Kansas in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament
Y. E. Yang's win over Tiger Woods in the PGA Championship
