DENVER – Thirteen WAC student athletes have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District track and field/cross country teams, an honor based on a combination of academic and athletic performance. Eight men and five women were named to the District VIII first and second teams, which includes institutions from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
Members of the District VIII first team include Boise State’s Eleni Kafourou, Idaho’s K.C. Dahlgren, Paul Dittmer, Maike Holthuijzen, Allix Lee-Painter, Johnny Marler, and James Rogan and Utah State’s Dwayne Hansen and Erin Stratton. Members of the District VIII second team include Idaho’s Markus Geiger and Jeremy Klas, and Utah State’s Daniel Howell and Steven Strickland. Idaho's eight All-District selections give the Vandals the most among any track and field team in the nation.
In addition to their Academic All-District selection, two honorees will also be competing in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 9-12, in Eugene, Ore. at the University of Oregon. Idaho's Klas will compete in the men’s pole vault, and teammate Rogan will compete in the men’s hammer throw.
The nine first-team honorees will now be eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
