Seven WAC Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

DENVER – Seven Western Athletic Conference track and field programs, two men’s and five women’s, were named as All-Academic Track and Field Teams in Division I for the 2010 seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). For the men, Idaho and Utah State earned the honors. On the women’s side, Boise State, Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Idaho and Utah State garnered team accolades. A total of 73 men’s teams and 151 women’s teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

Last week, eighteen WAC student-athletes were named to the 2010 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team. Ten women and eight men earned the honors. Idaho led the conference with nine honors, Utah State garnered five accolades, Boise State was represented with two, and Fresno State and Hawai‘i each boasted one award.

Those earning All-Academic status were Boise State’s Eleni Kafourou and Megan Olivetti, Fresno State’s J’Quyra Moncur-Blue, Hawai‘i’s Samantha Balentine, Idaho’s Kristina Dahlgren, Paul Dittmer, Christie Gordon, Ulrike Hartz, Jeremy Klas, Allix Lee-Painter, Eugenio Mannucci, Gabby Midles and James Rogan, and Utah State’s Daniel Howell, Matt Maughan, Clint Silcock, Erin Stratton, and Steve Strickland.
 
To qualify for the honor, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
