Throughout the month of October, Fresno
State senior quarterback Ryan Colburn will
write a weekly blog on his teams progress and what it's like to be a student-athlete in-season. Check back each Monday to read a new entry.

Hello and welcome to Ryan
Colburn’s final blog.
This past weekend we
traveled to San Jose to take on another WAC opponent. The weather was rainy and
cold and the Bulldogs prevailed over the Spartans. It was great to see all the
fans in the stands that traveled three hours
to the game.
One of the great things
about playing San Jose State was that I was able to see one of my great friends
Matt Faulkner who is the quarterback there. Matt played football for Fresno
State and transferred over a year ago. While he was at Fresno we became good
friends and it was an honor to play with him. In San Jose we got to play
against each other, him a Spartan and me a Bulldog. One of the greatest things
about sports is the relationships you build.
Looking forward into the
Fresno State football schedule we have a bye week. This means we have time to
keep working and getting better, something my team and I strive to do every
day. As a whole we will also take some time to recuperate.
During a bye week I make a
lot of effort to keep up on my school work, spend time with family and friends
and enjoy all the great football on TV.
It’s crazy to think that
October is coming to an end and November will soon be upon us. This football
and fall season is flying by and I am looking forward to the five regular season
games we have. As a senior I want to make each of them count and enjoy and be
thankful for each moment of football.
I hope everyone has a safe
and happy Halloween and more importantly, enjoy the Thanksgiving and Christmas
seasons right around the corner. Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog
and I hope you learned a little about the life of a Fresno State
student-athlete.
GO ‘DOGS!

Hi. This is Ryan Colburn, senior quarterback of
the Fresno State football team here for my third blog.
This past weekend was our homecoming weekend and we hosted WAC opponent New Mexico State. It was a great weekend as our school also had its centennial celebration. Happy 100th birthday Fresno State.
First off it was great to get a win, especially
for our fans and at Bulldog Stadium. Game day had a special feel to it. There
was a homecoming parade, a tailgate of the century, several alumni were on
campus, and the school held an impressive fireworks show at the end of the
game.
Paris Gaines (a Bulldog running back from 1999-01)
came and talked to our offense about how special it is to play for Fresno
State. He emphasized the importance of paving the way for future Bulldogs and
also to enjoy the experience of being a Bulldog while we here.
It was great day to be a Bulldog and I really took
what Paris Gaines said to heart. I am enjoying every moment as a Bulldog and
never forgetting how special it is to wear the red helmet with the white dog.

Hello. Thank you for reading part two
of my blog. A lot of people do not realize the amount of time that a division
one athlete puts into their school efforts and also into their sport. I thought
it would be interesting to walk you through a typical day in the life of the
Fresno State quarterback.
6:45 a.m. – I usually am up by this
time.
7:15 a.m. – Everyday I meet with our
quarterbacks coach in the cafeteria on campus for breakfast.
7:45 a.m. – I go watch film of our
upcoming opponent for about two hours.
10 a.m. – I have a computer science
class that is two hours long.
Noon – I rush home to grab a quick
lunch and also grab a snack for pre-practice.
12:30 p.m. – I head to the training
room for treatment and I will watch more film if I have time.
1:30 p.m. – Team meeting and then straight
into position meetings.
3:05 p.m. – Practice begins
5:30 p.m. – Ice and treatment after
practice.
6:30 p.m. – I am home to make some
dinner and work on my homework.
10:00 p.m. – I like to be in bed by
this time so I can be up at 6:45 a.m. to do it all again.
Thanks again for reading my blog. And
remember to check out gobulldogs.com for all Fresno State football information
and for other news on Bulldog Athletics.

Hi. I am Ryan Colburn, senior
quarterback of the Fresno State football team. I was born and raised in the San
Joaquin Valley, grew up watching Fresno State sports and was definitely
“Bulldog born, Bulldog bred, and I’m gonna be a Bulldog until the day I’m
dead.”
I chose Fresno State for those reasons
and more. At a young age my dad used to bring me to Fresno State
basketball games and from there a love grew for the university and the people
it’s made up of.
I first started playing organized
football when I was 10 years old. My dad told me I was too big to play soccer
so he signed me up for football and I have been playing ever since.
When the time came to choose a place to
play college football, being close to family and friends and all those who
support me was a huge factor in my decision. I also loved the attitude and
personality that Coach (Pat) Hill and the program represented, including the
Green V. It represents the strong agriculture base in the Central San Joaquin
Valley.
This past weekend we played Cal Poly,
San Luis Obispo. I love playing at Bulldog Stadium and in front of our home
crowd. Bulldog Stadium is a special place full of great fans and great
memories.
Thank you for reading my blog and if
you are in the Fresno area this weekend we will be playing WAC opponent Hawaii on
Saturday Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. This is our second WAC game and I am excited to get
on the field and back under the lights.
Until next time…
