DENVER - Idaho's Jarred
Bossio and Kayla Mortellaro have been named the Verizon Western Athletic
Conference Golfers of the Month for September.
Bossio, a junior from
Olympia, Wash. (Capital HS), opened the fall season with a runner-up finish at
the Palouse Cougar Collegiate with a 13-under 203 (68-65-70), Sept. 13-14. He finished two strokes behind his teammate,
Damian Telles, in the field of 88 that included 15 teams. The Vandals finished in second place as a
team. Bossio then took third place at
the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational with a 5-under 211 (75-73-63), Sept.
20-21. His third round score of 63 tied
the course record at Washington National and helped Idaho to a fifth place
finish in the 14-team field. Bossio led
all WAC golfers with a 69.0 average for the month
Mortellaro, a junior
from Phoenix, Ariz. (Mesa Distance Learning), won both tournaments she competed
in during September. Mortellaro won by
two strokes at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic with a 9-under 207 (70-67-70),
Sept. 13-14. She then tied for top
honors in the WSU Cougar Cup, Sept. 20-22.
Mortellaro opened the second tournament with a first round 80, but then
responded with back-to-back 70s to record the low rounds of the
tournament. She was 4-over for the three
rounds (220-80-70-70). Mortellaro had a
71.2 stroke average for the month, the best of any WAC golfer.
