Boise State Broncos (2-4-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Boise State dropped a pair of matches at the Governor’s Cup tournament in Pocatello, Idaho ... the Broncos dropped a 1-0 decision to Utah Valley before dropping a 1-0 setback in overtime to Idaho State ... against Utah Valley, junior keeper Liz Ruiz kept the Broncos in the game with eight saves during the match, four in each half ... Idaho State scored in the 94th minute to win the final match of the Governor’s Cup ... freshman Katy Oehring led Boise State with two shots on goal during the contest. Ruiz and Lauren Hickok were named to the all-tournament team ... this week, Boise State hosts Seattle on Sunday.
Fresno State Bulldogs (4-2-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Fresno State went a perfect 2-0-0 at the FIU tournamenti in Miami ... Fresno State defeated FIU 2-1 before taking down Florida Atlantic 3-2 ... against FIU, goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel recorded her third win and recorded four saves ... the Bulldogs had 11 shots, while the Golden Panthers have five ... Claudia Cardenas and Nicole Duff each scored goals for Fresno State ... the Bulldogs won their fourth-straight match against Florida Atlantic with the team’s best offensive game of the year scoring three goals, two of which came in the first 10 minutes of the match ... this week, Fresno State hosts UC Davis on Sunday, Sept. 12.
Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine (2-4-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Hawai‘i split a pair of road matches last week ... the team defeated San Francisco 3-2 before dropping an 8-1 decision at California ... Mari Punzal scored the game-winning goal with less than six minutes remaining in regulation to lift the UH to a 3-2 win over San Francisco in the Cal Invitational ... UH found the going rough in its second road match of the season with an 8-1 loss to No. 21 California in the Cal Invitational Sunday afternoon ... the eight goals were the most ever given up by a UH team, eclipsing the old record set by BYU when they defeated the Rainbow Wahine, 7-0 ... UH continues road play at Saint Mary’s on Tuesday.
Idaho Vandals (3-2-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Idaho went 2-0 at the Governor’s Cup tournament for the second year in a row … sophomores Chelsea Small and Cassandra San earned All-Tournament Team honors … Idaho earned its third-straight win over Idaho State on Friday, then beat Utah Valley for the second year in a row on Sunday … three Idaho players scored goals over the weekend and four different players registered an assist … Idaho has won four of its last five neutral-site games dating back to last season ... Idaho travels to play South Dakota on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (5-2-0, 0-0 WAC)
Louisiana Tech went 3-0 this past week and outscored its opponents 15-1 with an 8-0 win over Grambling State, a 3-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and a 4-0 win over McNeese State ... for the season, Tech has outscored its opponents 19-5 ... junior Kiva Gresham recorded her 16th assist of her career which places her first on Tech’s all-time list ... junior Rachel King recorded her third-career hat trick and had six goals on the week ... Tech hosts Texas State on Friday for its fifth home game in its last six games.
Nevada Wolf Pack (1-3-1, 0-0-0 WAC)
Nevada went 1-1 this past week, picking up its first victory of the season ... the Wolf Pack defeated Montana 3-1 before dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to South Dakota State ... in the win over Montana, Cristen Drummond opened the scoring with a shot inside the right post in the fifth minute ... her first goal of the 2010 campaign gave Nevada a lead they did not relinquish ... two other players, Jill Erickson and Kesia Broome, also tallied their first goal of the young season Friday ... Jill Erickson and Danielle Green each recorded goals in the loss to SDSU ... Nevada now travels to play Sacramento State and San Francisco this week.
New Mexico State Aggies (2-1-2, 0-0-0 WAC)
In the second double overtime match of the season, NM State posted a 1-1 tie with Northern Arizona, Sept. 5 ... the Aggies evened the scored, 1-1, in the 64th minute when sophomore forward Crystal Burns found sophomore forward Yolanda McMillion ... the Aggies suffered their first loss of the season in the first Rio Grande Rivalry match in program history with a 1-0 decision at New Mexico, Sept. 3 ... this week, New Mexico State hosts North Dakota on Friday.
San Jose State Spartans (1-4-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
San Jose State split a pair of matches last week ... the Spartans dropped a 2-0 decision to Cal Poly before defeating Cal State Bakersfield, 2-1 ... the Spartans managed just six shots during the match ... Katie Knopp, with two, was the only San Jose State player with more than one shot in the Spartans’ attacking half of the field ... Kelsey Lord scored both goals on Sunday, helping the team to a 2-1 victory over CSU Bakersfield ... after managing an impressive five shots in the first half, the Spartans struck at the 23:32 mark of the first half on Lord’s first goal of the afternoon ... Lord also scored in the 82nd minute ... SJSU travels to play San Diego State before hosting UC Riverside.
Utah State State Aggies (2-1-2, 0-0-0 WAC)
Utah State sent 0-1-1 last week with a loss to Long Beach State and a tie against San Diego State ... Utah State’s Kendra Pemberton scored in the fifth minute to give USU the early 1-0 leader over nationaly-ranked Long Beach State, but then gave up to second-half goals to take the loss ... senior Lauren Hansen’s second-half goal was the equalizer as the Utah State soccer team tied San Diego State 1-1 in double overtime in San Diego on Sunday ... Hansen now has 27 career goals and is just five goals from second in career goals scored. Brigid Turner (1999-2000) is currently second with 32 ... Utah State hosts Colorado College on Friday and Cal Poly on Sunday.
WAC NOTES
LOUISIANA TECH’S KING NAMED WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Louisiana Tech’s Rachel King has been named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30 – Sept. 5.
King, a junior forward from O’Fallon, Mo. (Fort Zumwalt West HS), led Louisiana Tech to wins over Grambling State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and McNeese State last week. King capped off a remarkable scoring week as she recorded her third-career hat trick in a 4-0 win over McNeese State. Her three goals in a game ties the Louisiana Tech school record. Over the three matches, King recorded eight shots on goal and scored six goals to help Tech to the 3-0 record.
Other offensive nominees included: Fresno State junior forward Molly Nizzoli … Hawai‘i senior midfielder Chelsea Deptula … Idaho sophomore forward Chelsea Small … New Mexico State sophomore forward Yolanda McMillion … Utah State senior midfielder Stefani Shiozaki.
IDAHO’S BOYDEN NAMED WAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Idaho’s Liz Boyden has been named Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30 – Sept. 5.
Boyden, a junior goalkeeper from Spokane, Wash. (Ferris HS), registered eight saves over the weekend in helping Idaho to a 2-0 record at the Governor’s Cup tournament in Pocatello, Idaho. Boyden earned her sixth career shutout with four stops against Utah Valley on Sunday after holding Idaho State to one goal on Friday.
Other defensive nominees included: Fresno State senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel … Louisiana Tech freshman goalkeeper Caitlyn Updyke … New Mexico State sophomore defender Courtney Irwin.
WEEK THREE HIGHLIGHTS
Louisiana Tech highlighted the week with three wins to take over first place in the WAC’s non-conference standings. LA Tech forward Rachel King recorded a hat trick in the team’s win over McNeese State. Louisiana Tech also defeated 2009 NCAA Tournament team Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Grambling State. Idaho swept a pair of matches at the Idaho Governor’s Cup in Pocatello with victories over Utah Valley and Idaho State. Fresno State went 2-0 last week at the FIU Tournament in Miami. Hawai‘i, defeating both FIU and FAU. Nevada and San Jose State each split a pair of matches, while New Mexico State and Utah State each went 0-1-1.

COLLEGE CUP
The 29th Annual Women’s College Cup will be held Dec. 3 and 5, 2010, in Cary, N.C., at the WakeMed Soccer Park. Last season, the WAC had one team compete in postseason play with Boise State falling in the first round to UCLA. The following is a list of sites and dates for the 2010 NCAA Tournament:
