LOGAN--Utah State (17-2, 6-0) will host New Mexico State (10-10, 4-2) on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. MT. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Mark Neely (play-by-play) and Dino Gaudio (analyst) calling the action.
Utah State's current 20-game WAC winning streak is the longest conference winning streak in league history bettering Utah's 19-game WAC winning streak during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Overall, USU has won 38 of its last 42 WAC games and is 46-8 (.852) in WAC play during the last four years.
USU is led by senior forward Tai Wesley who is averaging 14.5 points and 8.1 rebounds, while shooting 62.1 percent from the field and 69.7 percent at the free throw line. Junior guard Brockeith Pane is averaging 11.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists and is shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 26.9 percent from three-point range and 80.8 percent at the free throw line.
New Mexico State moved to 10-10 and 4-2 in the WAC after falling at Nevada, 90-71, Jan. 20. Junior forward Troy Gillenwater leads NM State with a team-high 19.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Junior guard Hernst Laroche is averaging 11.1 points and 4.7 assists per contest. Freshman guard Christian Kabongo adds 10.1 points per game.
The last time the two teams played, NM State won the WAC Tournament title with a 69-63 victory over Utah State, March 13, 2010 in the WAC Tournament championship game in Reno.
