DENVER – Louisiana Tech senior forward Adrienne Johnson has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-23. This is the second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Johnson and the sixth of her career.
A Franklin, La. native, Johnson led LA Tech to a pair of WAC wins over Utah State (91-74) and Nevada (67-43), averaging 31.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She opened the week with her seventh double-double of the season when she tallied a career-high 36 points to go with 13 rebounds. She also dished out four assists, grabbed three steals and set a program record by hitting 16-of-16 free throws. Johnson followed that up by scoring 26 points against Nevada. For the week, she hit an amazing 24-of-25 free throws (96 percent) in the two wins.
Other nominees included: Boise State’s Lauren Lenhardt had 14 points against Idaho … Yinka Olorunnife of Idaho averaged 23.5 points and 9.5 as the Vandals went 1-1 on the week … New Mexico State’s Madison Spence finished with 23 points, four assists and three steals in a win over Utah State … Sara Plavljanin of San Jose State averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals as the Spartans picked up their first wins of the season … Utah State’s Ashlee Brown averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds on the week.
