LARAMIE, Wyo. – Behind 14 second-half points from senior guard Trevor Gaskins (Alpharetta, Ga.), the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team (2-1) defeated Maryland Eastern Shore (1-5) 73-54 in the first game of the Jim Thorpe Classic Friday afternoon at Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo. as five Bulldogs scored in double-figures. “We played our best 20 minutes of the season in the second half tonight,” said head coach Michael White. Gaskins led Tech in scoring with 15 while junior forward J.L. Lewis (Gonzales, La.) added a career-high 13. Senior Romario Souza (Mias Gerias, Brazil added 11 in his first start of the season.

Hawai‘i 75, Pacific 70
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team got back in the win column with a thrilling 75-70 victory over Pacific Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Garrett Jefferson's three-point play with 3.7 seconds left proved the game-winner as UH improved to 2-2 on the season. Following two straight double-digit losses, UH earned a feel-good win against its future Big West nemesis. The Rainbow Warriors did not trail in the final 30 minutes of the game but needed Jefferson's heroics to pull off the win.

Southern Mississippi 80, New Mexico State 72
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -The New Mexico State men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season to Southern Mississippi, 80-72, in the semifinals of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout. The Aggies (4-1) meet San Francisco, Saturday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the third-place game. NM State had three players in double figures with sophomore guard Christian Kabongo leading the way with 19 points. He tied the shootout record for individual free-throw percentage (100) with a 15-of-15 showing at the line. Redshirt senior forward Wendell McKines contributed 17 points, while junior forward Tyrone Watson scored 10. The Aggies raced to a 6-0 lead to open the game before Southern Miss responded with a 7-0 run of its own. NM State reclaimed the lead on a pair of Kabongo free throws, 8-7, and didn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the first half.

BYU 76, Nevada 55
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) - Charles Abouo scored 22 points and Noah Hartsock added 21 to lead BYU to a 76-55 victory against Nevada in the Chicago Invitational Challenge on Friday night. Brandon Davies added 10 points for the Cougars (4-1). Malik Story, Jerry Evans Jr. and Olek Czyz scored 11 points each for the Wolf Pack (3-3). Czyz had nine rebounds. Nevada never recovered from a 4:29 scoreless stretch in the first half. Brock Zylstra's 3-pointer ignited a 16-0 BYU run in which Hartsock scored five points. The surge ended when a Davies free throw gave the Cougars a 24-6 lead.
