DENVER - Six WAC women's soccer players have been named to the Capital One Academic Allâ€District Women’s Soccer Teams.
Fresno State was the only WAC school with multiple players honored, as Kayle Kret and Kendall VanDine were selected to the District 8 first team.
Kret, a sophomore from Newhall, Calif., is a biology major with an
emphasis in human anatomy and physiologyand has a 3.91 GPA. She also played every minute
on the pitch this season and was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week
(Sept. 26) after helping keep No. 8 Pepperdine scoreless for over 108
minutes. That same match, she headed in the game-tying goal, her second
against a ranked opponent. She finished the year with a career-high
three goals.
VanDine, senior from Brea, Calif. was a 2010 CoSIDA Academic All-District award recipient. She has a 3.90 GPA while majoring in
communicative disorders with an emphasis in speech language
pathology. She played every minute of every match for the Bulldogs and recorded over 129 hours of game time in her career. The three-year
captain helped lead the team to two conference championships and three
title matches over her four years. VanDine was named to the All-Western
Athletic Conference first-team and the all-tournament team this season.
Idaho junior Chelsea Small earned Distict 8 second team honors. Small, a forward from Solana Beach, Calif. (Torrey Pines HS), has a 3.96 GPA while majoring in secondary education. She led Idaho with 10 goals, four assists and 24 points on the season, netting two game-winners. She helped lead the Vandals to their first Western Athletic Conference Tournament victory.
Louisiana Tech senior defender Olivia Lukasewich was named to the District 6 second team. Lukasewich finished the season leading Tech with six goals, the 10th most in a season for a Lady Techster, and 13 points. She never missed a game in her career while finishing third in points and fourth in assists in school history. She holds a cumulative GPA of 3.84, while majoring in Health and Physical Education.
Elise Nordin of New Mexico State earned second team honors in District 7. Nordin, from Huntington Beach, Calif. (Huntington Beach HS), has a 3.91 GPA while pursing a degree in nursing. She
helped guide the Aggies to a school record 10-8-3 finish in 2011 and
first postseason win in program history. As a member of the Aggie
backline, she played in 20 matches and helped NM State to a school
record seven shutouts this season.
Defender Natlie Norris of Utah State joined Kret and VanDine on the District 8 first team, giving the WAC three of four defenders named to squad. Norris, a junior from Sandy, Utah (Alta HS), was named Western Athletic
Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season
on Wednesday. She also earned first-team all-WAC honors. She became the first Utah State soccer player
to earn CoSIDA honors. The junior has a 3.94 in nutrition, dietetics
& food science. She has earned academic all-WAC honors the last two
seasons.
