DENVER – Fresno State’s Remi Boutillier and Hawai’i’s Jamie Pawid have been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for the month of November.
Boutillier, a senior from Briancon, France, played in the prestigious National Indoor Competition in Queens, N.Y., where he was the only player competing from the Western Athletic Conference. In the Round of 32, Boutillier defeated Georgia's Wil Spencer, the sixth-ranked player in the country, 6-3, 6-2. Boutillier, was able to avenge his loss to Spencer at the ITA All-American Championships in October. In the Round of 16 he went up against No. 17 Constin Paval out of Oklahoma, and after winning the first set 6-3, he dropped sets two and three, 6-4, 7-5, to lose the match.
Pawid, a freshman from Castro Valley, Calif. (Castro Valley HS), defeated Stanford All-American and ITA's pre-season No. 12, Stacey Tan, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Last season, Tan reached the finals of the NCAA Singles Championship before falling to the eventual champion, California’s Jana Juricova. Pawid secured the only victory for the Rainbow Wahine against the powerhouse Cardinal during the dual on Nov. 21.

Other women’s nominees included: Fresno State junior Olga Kirpicheva … Nevada sophomore Michelle Okhremchuk.
