ATHLETES OF THE WEEK (Dec. 12-18)
Northern Arizona’s Emma Lowther and Kristy Ardavanis have been named the Verizon WAC Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for the week of Dec. 12-18.

Lowther, a sophomore from Cockle Bay, New Zealand (Howick), won the 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle, finished second in the 800 freestyle relay, finished fourth in the 200 freestyle, and advanced to the C finals in the 100 fly at the UNLV Winter Invitational. She won the 500 free on the first day of competition on Friday, defeating 41 other competitors and winning by more than three seconds with a time of 4:56.55. In the 1650 free, she topped 23 other competitors by more than 22 seconds, with a time of 16:52.08. Her times in both victories were the fastest recorded in the WAC this season. She also swam the last leg of the 800 free relay team that finished second in 7:41.43, ahead of 17 other teams.

Ardavanis, a junior from Gilbert, Ariz. (Mesquite HS), won the 1-meter diving competition over 18 other divers at the UNLV Winter Invitational. She scored 295.05 to win by nearly 20 points. The win was her 10th diving title of the season in just seven meets. This is the fourth time this season she has been named WAC Diver of the Week.

TEAM RECAPS

Fresno State Bulldogs (2-4)
Fresno State fell 165-135 to Idaho on Dec. 2 in a conference dual ... junior Rayanne Nguyen won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.60 and won the 200 butterfly in 2:08.66 ... Junior Stacey Luke set a new career best dive in the 1-meter event scoring a 278.78 .. she set a new pool record and broke her previous record by more than three points (275.40) ... she also took second in the 3-meter competition with a score of 256.75 ... the Bulldogs will be off for over a month before returning to action with the diving squad competing at the Stanford Diving Invitational on Jan. 12-13 ... the entire squad will be back in action when Fresno State hosts San Diego State, CSU Bakersfield and Cal State East Bay on Jan. 14.

Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine (0-0)

Hawai’i hosted Oregon State on Sunday in a scrimmage meet, where no official times were recorded ... in its last official competition on Dec. 1-3, Hawai’i sent its diving squad to the Texas Diving Invitational for three days of competition ... junior Hannah Bocksnick won the 3-meter diving competition on Friday with a score of 326.85, the second-best score of the season in the WAC ... she beat out divers from Texas, Houston and Washington ...  senior Daniella Nero finished second in the 1-meter competition, while Bocksnick placed fourth ... Nero’s score of 299.05 was the third-best score in the conference on the season ... the Rainbow Wahine will be back in action on Dec. 31, hosting Minnesota.

Idaho Vandals (2-3)

Idaho defeated Fresno State 165-135 on Dec. 2 in a conference dual in its last action ... freshman Rachel Millet won three  individual events, taking the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle races ... freshman Erica Anderson won the 100 and 200 backstroke events ... the Vandals also won both of the relays during the dual ... Anderson and Millet teamed with sophomore Megan Venlos and junior  Kelsie Saxe in the 400 medley relay ... Anderson, Venlos, senior Katie Hendricks and senior Si Jia Pang combined to win the 200 freestyle relay, giving Anderson four victories on the day ... the Vandals are off for over a month before taking to the pool again at New Mexico State on Jan. 21 in a conference dual.

Nevada Wolf Pack (3-1)

Nevada defeated Cal State East Bay 152-93 on Dec. 2 in its last action, the third-straight dual victory for Nevada on the season ... three Nevada athletes won multiple events on the day ... junior Gabby Guieb earned wins in the 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard IM ... junior Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn won the 50 and 100-yard backstroke, as well as the 100-yard breaststroke ... junior Jojo Mi won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events ... the Wolf Pack will not be in action again for almost two months before hosting Seattle University on Jan. 28.

New Mexico State Aggies (2-2)
New Mexico State finished third at the UNLV Winter Invitational, placing just four points behind conference foe Northern Arizona ... the Aggies dominated the 200 individual medley, with only .01 of a second separating junior Beth Cate (2:05.82) and freshman Jessica Legge (2:05.83), with Cate taking top honors ... those two also controlled the 400 IM with Cate and Legge earning first and second places, respectively ... In addition, Cate scored in second place in the 200 butterfly, sixth in the 100 butterfly and 11th in the 200 back and was on the 200-medley that posted a third-place finish ... the Aggies are in action again on Jan. 6 when they travel to Tuscon, Ariz. to face Arizona and Oregon State.

North Dakota Fighting Sioux (4-3)

North Dakota finished seventh with 163 points after three days of competition at the Mizzou Tiger Invite in its last competition ... senior Megan Keidel took 6th on the platform with a mark of 189.00 and finished 7th in the 3-meter competition with a score of 218.75 ... junior Veronica Medon rounded out a strong showing on the weekend when she shaved over a second off of her 200 backstroke time to take fifth with a time of 2:00.73 ... freshman Cassidy Tangeman placed 10th in the platform and sophomore Rachael Waldbillig took 10th on the 3-meter board ... the Fighting Sioux are off until 2012, when UND will travel to Ft. Myers for two meets, the first vs. Howard and Old Dominion on Jan. 1.

Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (5-2)

Northern Arizona finished in second place at the UNLV Winter Invitational this weekend, ahead of New Mexico State, Northern Colorado and eight other schools, behind only host UNLV ... sophomore Emma Lowther won the 500 free and 1650 free, finished second in the 800 free relay, finished fourth in the 200 free, and advanced to the C finals in the 100 butterfly ... junior Kristy Ardavanis won the 1-meter diving competition over 18 other divers, earning a score of 295.05 to win by nearly 20 points … the win was her 10th diving title of the season in just seven meets … the Lumberjacks will compete next on Jan. 6, as they travel to Tuscon, Ariz. to face Arizona and Oregon State.

San Jose State Spartans (3-1)

San Jose State senior Kirsten Trammell and sophomore Darcie Anderson attended the AT&T Winter National Championship Meet on Dec. 1-3 ... both Trammel and Andeson excelled, reaching qualifying times in the 100 breaststroke for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team trials ... Trammel also qualified for the trials in the 200 breastroke ... Trammel finished 18th in the 200 and 26th in the 100 ... Anderson finished 23rd in the 100 and 35th in the 200 ... the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Meet will take place in Omaha, Neb. from June 25-July 2, 2012 ... the Spartans wrapped up the 2011 portion of the schedule and won’t return to competition until a Jan. 6 dual against CSU Bakersfield.
