DENVER – Louisiana Tech freshman forward Whitney Frazier has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 19-25. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of her career.
The El Dorado, Ark., native scored a career-high 20 points to lead Louisiana Tech to an 82-64 win over Tennessee Tech in the only game of the week. Frazier, who entered the game averaging 6.8 points per game, hit 9-of-11 field goals (82 percent) and 2-of-2 free throws in 28 minutes of action. She also pulled down four rebounds, recorded two assists, and added one block and one steal in the win. Frazier scored eight of Tech’s first 10 points and had equaled her previous career high of 16 points by halftime.
Other nominees included: Fresno State’s Ki-Ki Moore had 18 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in the Bulldogs’ five-point win at UC Riverside ... Kamilah Jackson of Hawai‘i averaged 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Rainbow Wahine went 1-1 on the week ... San Jose State’s Brittany Johnson averaged 24.0 points on 57 percent shooting, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as the Spartans went 1-1 on the week ... Maddy Plunkett of Utah State averaged 15 points on 67 percent shooting and added 9.0 rebounds as the Aggies went 2-0 on the week.
