DENVER – Utah State’s Armahd Lewis and Boise State’s Kurt Felix were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 24-30.

Lewis, a senior from Stockton, Calif. (Sacramento City College), continued his undefeated streak in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events at the Jacksons Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, on Jan. 29. Lewis claimed the title in both events for the third straight time. His time of 6.86 in the 60m was just shy of his WAC-leading time of 6.81, which was set earlier in the season. Lewis set a new career and WAC-best time with his victory in the 200m, as he won the event in 21.92 seconds. This is the second Athlete of the Week honor for Lewis this season.

Felix, a junior from St. Davids, Genada (Central Arizona College), had a record breaking day at the Jacksons Invitational as he set the all-time WAC record for the heptathlon. Felix crushed his own school record along with the WAC record in the heptathlon scoring 5,669 points. He won the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and long jump in the seven event competition. He had career bests in the 60m hurdles (8.38), Long jump (24 ft., 5.75 in.) and 60m dash (7.15). He tied his indoor best of 6 feet, 11 inches in the high jump and recorded season bests in the shot put (44 ft., 3.25 in.), 1000m (2:50.15) and pole vault (13 ft., 7.25 in.). Felix’s record replaces the previous record of 5,532 points set by John Strang of Utah State in 2009.
