DENVER – Utah State’s Katelyn Heiner and Boise State’s Mele Vaisima were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 24-30.

Heiner, a junior from Ogden, Utah (Ogden HS), had a fantastic performance at the Jacksons Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, on Jan. 29. For the second week in a row Heiner won the 400-meters with a career-best time of 55.47 seconds. She finished nearly a full second ahead of the second-place finisher while recording the top time in the WAC this season.

Vaisima, a junior from Woods Cross, Utah (Judge Memorial HS), continued her undefeated streak in the weight throw by winning the event for the fourth consecutive time over the weekend at the Jacksons Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. Vaisima improved her season-best mark for the second straight week with a throw of 61 feet, 10.50 inches to win the event by 6 ft., 9.50 in. Vaisima continues to lead the WAC in the weight throw competition. She also placed second in the shot put with a career-best throw of 45 ft., 2.25 in.
