DENVER – Idaho’s Shana Lim and Hawai’i’s Emma Friesen have been named the Verizon WAC Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Jan. 24-30.
Lim, a freshman from Singapore, set two school records in Idaho’s meet against Oregon State on Jan. 29 in Corvallis, Ore. One of Lim’s school records came in the 200-yard backstroke as she claimed victory in the event with a time of 2:01.89, which is the second-best time in the WAC this season. She also helped Idaho’s 400 medley relay team to a win as she swam a school record time in her 100 backstroke leg. Not only is her time of 55.11 seconds in the100 backstroke a new Idaho school record, it is also the first NCAA “B” cut qualifying time for any Idaho swimmer this season.
Friesen, a senior from Vancouver, B.C. (Seycove HS), sat out the earlier portion of the season, but made her comeback in a double dual meet with Wyoming and San Diego State on Jan. 29. Friesen led a Rainbow Wahine assault on the 1-meter as she and her teammates swept the top three spots in the event. Freisen claimed the 1-meter title with a dive that netted her a score of 295.25, nearly 20 points ahead of teammate Hannah Bocksnick.
