Fresno State 78, Boise State 59
Behind a 32-point effort from Jaleesa Ross, the Bulldogs rolled to a 78-59 win over the Broncos at the Save Mart Center Thursday night. With the win, Fresno State improves to 16-7 on the season and 7-2 in WAC play. Boise State drops to 11-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
The Bulldogs set the conference record for three-pointers in a WAC game with 16, while Ross tied a career high with eight three-pointers in the game. She now has 365 on her career, tied for the WAC record with Colorado State's Becky Hammon.
Fresno State shot 41 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line on the game. Boise State connected on 35 percent from the field, 29 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs edged the Broncos on the boards, 44-42.
Rosie Moult added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Taja Edwards finished with 14 points and six boards. Ross also had six assists against just one turnover.
Nicole Brady paced Boise State with 18 points, followed by Kinzi Poteet with 12.
Utah State 70, Idaho 64
Banna Diop scored a career-high 22 points, including 20 in the second half, to lead Utah State to its fifth-straight victory, a 70-64 win over Idaho Thursday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. With the win, Utah State improves to 13-10 overall and 7-3 in the WAC. The Vandals fall to 12-10 overall and 5-5 in WAC action.
The fifth-straight WAC win for the Aggies is their longest-conference winning streak since the 1975-76 season when USU finished 10-3 in Intermountain Athletic Conference action.
For the game, Utah State shot 39 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc and 70 percent from the charity stripe. Idaho shot 39 percent from the field, 56 percent from three-point range and 76 percent from the free throw line. The Vandals won the rebounding battle, 41-32, but committed 28 turnovers in the loss.
Devyn Christensen and Ashlee Brown added 11 points apiece for the Aggies, while Brown also pulled down eight boards. Alice Coddington nabbed six steals to move her career total to 214, two away from tying the USU record of 216 held by assistant coach Danyelle Snelgro (2005-09).
Idaho had all five of its starters score in double digits and were led by a 16-point, 14-rebound performance from Yinka Olorunnife. Derisa Taleni also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Nevada 65, San Jose State 36
Nevada outscored San Jose State 39-12 in the second half to claim a 65-36 victory at Lawlor Events Center Thursday night. With the win, Nevada improves to 16-7 on the season and 5-5 in the WAC, while San Jose State drops to 2-21 overall and 2-8 in WAC play.
Nevada shot 50 percent from the field, 54 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the free throw line on the game. San Jose State connected on just 26 percent from the field, 29 percent from downtown and 80 percent from the charity stripe. Nevada out-rebounded San Jose State 41-25.
Tahnee Robinson led all scorers with 26 points for her fourth consecutive 20-point game. Marissa Hammond added 10 points, while Shavon Moore grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Spartans were led by A.J. Newton's 10 points.
