DENVER - Nevada's Scott Smith and San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for February 14-20.

Smith, a senior from Fallon, Nev. (Churchill County HS), tied for sixth place at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.  Smith posted all three rounds at par or better for a total of 7-under 209 (69-72-68).  He was three shots behind the leaders and helped the Wolf Pack to a fifth-place finish in the 16-team field.  It is the fourth time in his career that Smith has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Ziegert, a junior from Halmstad, Sweden (Allvar Gullstrand HS), finished in a tie for eighth place at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford last week.  Ziegert shot a 7-over par 149 (72-77) in the two-round tournament that was suspended during the first round due to rain.  After the completion of the round the following day, Ziegert was tied for second after posting one birdie, 15 pars and two bogeys.  It is the second time in her career that Ziegert has won a WAC golfer of the week award.

Other men nominated: Nate Jessup, Fresno State; T.J. Kua, Hawai'i; and Benjamin Schilleman, Utah State.

Other women nominated: Chelsea Czinski, Fresno State; and Suteera Chanachi, New Mexico State.
