Nevada's Scott
Smith and San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert have been named the Verizon
Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for February 14-20.
Smith, a senior
from Fallon, Nev. (Churchill County HS), tied for sixth place at the John Burns
Intercollegiate in Hawaii. Smith posted
all three rounds at par or better for a total of 7-under 209 (69-72-68). He was three shots behind the leaders and helped
the Wolf Pack to a fifth-place finish in the 16-team field. It is the fourth time in his career that
Smith has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.
Ziegert, a junior
from Halmstad, Sweden (Allvar Gullstrand HS), finished in a tie for eighth place
at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford last week. Ziegert shot a 7-over par 149 (72-77) in the
two-round tournament that was suspended during the first round due to
rain. After the completion of the round
the following day, Ziegert was tied for second after posting one birdie, 15
pars and two bogeys. It is the second
time in her career that Ziegert has won a WAC golfer of the week award.

Schilleman, Utah State.
Other women
nominated: Chelsea Czinski, Fresno State; and Suteera Chanachi, New Mexico
State.
