SEDONA, Ariz. - Senior Lauren Hernandez picked up her second win of the season as she took medalist honors Saturday at the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona.
Hernandez, who was 12th after the first round on Friday and five shots out of the lead, fired an even-par 72 in the final round on Saturday to top Alexa Kim of Northern Arizona by one shot.
As a team, Nevada finished in fourth place overall after a 319 on Saturday. Hernandez was the only Pack player to break 80 in the final round. Northern Arizona ran away with the team title.
"Overall as a team, we were a little rusty in the first tournament of the spring," Nevada coach Chad Spencer said. "But it was an awesome job by Lauren and a great win for her."
Jamie Yam finished in a tie for 22nd after an 81 Saturday. Joyce Chong (82) was 26th and Louise Yi (84) was tied for 30th. Ana Patricia de la Maza was tied for 60th after an 84.
This was Nevada's first tournament of the spring. The Wolf Pack will be back in action March 7-8 at the Fresno Lexus Classic hosted by Fresno State.
