Louisiana Tech 90, Fresno State 84 (OT)
The Lady Techsters picked up their ninth-straight WAC victory Saturday, defeating the Bulldogs 90-84 in overtime before a season-high 7,123 fans at the Thomas Assembly Center.
With the win, LA Tech improves to 16-5 on the year and 8-0 in WAC play. Fresno State drops to 15-7 overall and 6-2 in the WAC.
The victory extended Tech's winning streak to nine games - the longest since the 2005-06 team won 15 straight. It was the third time in the last four meetings between the two teams that the game went to overtime.
Adrienne Johnson scored a team-high 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey and Jasmine Bendolph added 21 points apiece, while Whitney Jones scored 13.
Jaleesa Ross scored 30 points for Fresno State, while Marnique Arnold and Rosie Moult each added 16 points each. Taja Edwards posted her second double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Tech shot 45 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line. Fresno State shot only 35 percent from field, 27 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the charity stripe. The Techsters out-rebounded the Bulldogs 50-44, despite committing 19 turnovers compared to Fresno State's 12.
Hawai`i 72, Idaho 60
Hawai`i fell behind early but made a furious second half comeback to overtake and defeat Idaho 72-60 Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improve to 8-15 on the season and 2-8 in conference play. The Vandals drop to 12-9 on the year and 5-4 in the WAC.
Hawai`i shot 54 percent from the field, 20 percent from beyond the arc and 63 percent from the free throw line on the game. Idaho connected on 36 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 65 percent from the charity stripe on the game. The Rainbow Wahine dominated the paint, outscoring Idaho, 50-20 in the key and edged the Vandals 35-33 in rebounding.
Shawna-Lei Kuehu led Hawai`i with 15 points, while Kamilah Jackson had a game-high eight rebounds.
Idaho’s Rachele Kloke led all players with 25 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals.
Utah State 84, Boise State 69
Utah State tallied its fourth-straight WAC win with four Aggies in double-figures and a season-high 84 points to take down Boise State, 84-69, at Taco Bell Arena Saturday.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 12-10 on the season and 6-3 in WAC action. Boise State falls to 11-12 on the year and 2-7 in WAC play. It is the first time since the 2004-05 season that USU has been three games over .500 in WAC action.
USU shot 51 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range and 72 percent at the charity stripe. The Broncos shot 46 percent from the field, 16 percent from beyond the arc and 58 percent at the free throw line. The Broncos won the rebounding battle, 36-29.
Devyn Christensen led all scorers with 25 points, followed by Alice Coddington with a season-high 17 points. Amber White added 11 points and Maddy Plunket was the fourth Aggie to knock down double digits scoring 10.
Janie Boise paced the Broncos with 19 points and nine rebounds. Janelle Kearney added 16 points.
Nevada 66, San Jose State 47
Nevada picked up its 10th-straight win over San Jose State Saturday, picking up 66-47 road victory over the Spartans Saturday. With the win, the Wolf Pack improves to 15-7 overall and 3-5 in WAC play. San Jose State drops to 2-20 on the year and 2-7 in the WAC.
Nevada shot 51 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line on the game. SJSU shot 28 percent from the field, seven percent from beyond the arc and 71 percent from the charity stripe. The Wolf Pack edged the Spartans on the boards, 36-30.
Tahnee Robinson led all scorers with 21 points, while Nicole Williams scored 14 points and Shavon Moore added 12. Amanda Johnson tied her career high with eight assists.
The Spartans were led by Sayja Sumler with 17 points and Sara Plavljanin with 13.
