HARRIS NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Utah State's Brianna Harris has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 21-27.

Harris, a junior from Calgary, Canada (Bishop Carroll), went 5-0 in singles play during the week, helping Utah State to a 3-1 record in the process. In the Aggies only loss, a 1-6 defeat to North Texas, Harris managed Utah State's lone point as she defeated Carolina Barboza, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2. Harris wouldn't drop a set in her next four matches, closing out her week with victories over Eastern Washington's Rocio Norena, 6-0, 6-2, Temple College's Valentina Kecman, 6-0, 6-0, Seminole College's Ashley Coleman, 6-0, 6-0, and Collin County Community College's Regan Perme, 6-0, 6-0.

Other female nominees included: Sonia Klamczynska, Boise State; Melissa McQueen, Fresno State; Katarina Poljakova, Hawai'i.

WAC IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the Feb. 22 ITA rankings, two WAC teams were ranked in the top 60. Boise State comes in at No. 42, while Fresno State is at No. 60.

Fresno State and Hawai'i each have one singles player ranked in the top 100. Katarina Poljakova of the Rainbow Wahine garners the No. 94 ranking, and Marianne Jodoin comes in at No. 99 for the Bulldogs.

There are currently no doubles teams in the WAC ranked in the top 100.

BOISE STATE DROPS TWO TO RANKED OPPONENTS
The No. 42 ranked Broncos lost matches to No. 41 Arizona, 2-5, and No. 46 Saint Mary's, 2-5, over the weekend. Sonia Klamczynska had a nice match against Arizona's Natasha Marks, as Klamczynska pulled through with a difficult, 6-4, 0-6, 7-5, win.

FRESNO DROPS THREE IN A ROW ON TEXAS ROAD TRIP
The Bulldogs lost matches to Texas A&M, 1-6, Baylor, 0-7, and SMU, 1-6, this past week, while road tripping in Texas. Melissa Mcqueen earned the point for Fresno against Texas A&M as she defeated Christi Potgieter 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (5) , while Bianca Modoc earned the Bulldogs only point against SMU as she defeated Kris Roberts, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(0).

HAWAI'I LOSE TWO HOME CONTESTS
The Rainbow Wahine lost a pair of matches to Long Beach State, 1-6, and San Diego State, 2-5, over the weekend. Hawai'i was led by No. 94 ranked Katarina Poljakova, who nabbed a 6-7, 7-6 (3) win over SDSU's Julia Trunk on the No. 1 court. Poljakova also earned Hawai'i's lone point against Long Beach State's Brooke Doane, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

IDAHO DOWNED BY MONTANA
Idaho lost a close match to Montana, 4-3, in Pullman, Wash., Sunday. Vicky Lozano won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles for the Vandals, while Barbara Maciocha won, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 4 and Yvetee Ly won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. The difference turned out to be the doubles point Montana took in the beginning of the match against the Vandals.

LA. TECH BEATEN IN NATCHITOCHES
Louisiana Tech lost its road match against Northwestern State, 1-6, in Natchitoches, La., on Saturday. The Lady Techsters fell to 3-3 on the season after the loss. Sophomore Vivian ten Dolle made her season debut at No. 2 singles as she defeated Adna Curukovic, 6-2, 6-2, for her first win of the season.

NEVADA GETS SECOND WIN OF SEASON
Nevada defeated San Francisco, 5-2, Sunday for its second victory of the season. The Wolf Pack snapped a five-match slide in the win, as they took the point in doubles, as well as four of the six singles matches. Michelle Okhremchuk won at the No. 1, defeating the Dons Julia Wartenburger, 6-1, 6-4.

SAN JOSE STATE DOWNED AT HOME
The Spartans lost at home to Loyola Marymount, 2-5, in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday. Sabastiani Leon Chao claimed her third-straight victory at No. 1 singles after defeating Loyola Marymount's April Bisharat, 6-4, 6-2.

UTAH STATE GOES 3-1 ON ROAD TRIP
Utah State recorded wins against Temple College, 7-0, Seminole College, 7-0, Collin County CC, 7-0, last week on while on a Texas Road Trip. The Aggies also dropped a match to North Texas, 1-6.  The Aggies had straight set victories in all of their singles matchups except for one during the four match road trip.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE
The 2011 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 27-May 1 in Boise, Idaho.

Top-seeded Boise State earned its first-ever WAC Women's Tennis Championship last season with a 4-3 win over No. 3-seed Fresno State in the title match. The Broncos' victory ended the Bulldogs streak of eight-straight titles.
