DENVER – Hawai‘i second baseman Kolten Wong and Fresno State pitcher Greg Gonzalez have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 7-13.

Wong, a junior from Hilo, Hawaii (Kamehameha-Keeau), helped the Rainbows to a 2-3 record last week with a pair of wins over Portland. Wong batted .500 (11-of-22) and tallied six RBI, two doubles and two home runs. In the series finale against Portland, Wong registered two home runs, including a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead UH to the 6-5 victory.

Gonzalez, a senior from San Bruno, Calif. (Skyline CC), picked up a 1-0 shutout victory at Nebraska on Saturday. Gonzalez struck out a career-high 12 batters as Fresno State won its third game against a ranked opponent. Gonzalez did not give up a walk in 7.0 innings of work. He has now pitched 14 consecutive scoreless innings. Gonzalez sat the Huskers batters down in order in the second and seventh innings. He had a no-hitter through five innings and two-thirds innings, but it was broken up with a single to left field. He allowed only two hits in his fourth start of the season.
