- New Mexico State's
Tim Madigan and Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro have been named the Verizon Western
Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for March 7-13.
Madigan, a senior from Rio Rancho, N.M. (Rio
Rancho HS), tied for fourth place at last week's Fresno State Lexus
Classic. Madigan carded a 1-under 215
(75-72-68) to finish five strokes back of the leaders. His 4-under par 68 in the final round was the
second best of the day by anyone in the field and the only round under par for
any Aggie golfer during the tournament. It
is the first time in his career that Madigan has won a WAC golfer of the week
or month award.
Mortellaro, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz.
(Mesa Distance Learning), finished in third place at the UNLV Spring Rebel
Invitational after shooting a 7-under par 209 (71-69-69), March 7-9. She shot under par in all three rounds and
the first 69 tied for the best score of the second round. She currently is ranked as the sixth best
amateur golfer in the world. It is the ninth
time in her career that Mortellaro has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.
