Verizon WAC Tennis Players of the Week Announced

DENVER – Fresno State’s Jean-Charles Diame and Idaho’s Vicky Lozano have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week for March 7-13.

Diame, a junior from St. Jean des Nauvrets, France, went undefeated in both singles and doubles on the week. In a 4-3 loss to No. 49 Cal Poly, he defeated Jordan Bridge at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1. In doubles, he and partner Francis Alcantara picked up a win at No. 2 doubles. The following day, he helped leader his team to a 4-3 win over No. 50 Santa Clara, he earned a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles and also won at No. 2 doubles.

Lozano, a freshman from Guadalajara, Mexico, went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1doubles last week, as the Vandals went 3-0 as a team against UTPA, UTEP and UAB in El Paso, Texas. In Idaho’s 4-3 win over UAB on Sunday, the match was tied 3-3 with only the No. 1 singles point still to be determined. Lozano clinched the match for the Vandals with her three-set win at the top spot. Lozano is now 5-0 at No. 1 singles on the season, and 8-2 in singles overall.

Other male nominees included: Damian Hume, Boise State; and Leo Rosenberg, Hawai‘i.

Other female nominees included: Marlena Pietzuch, Boise State; Marianne Jodoin, Fresno State; Magdalena Ploch, Hawai‘i; and Michelle Okhremchuk, Nevada.
