DENVER – New Mexico State’s Jndia Cleveland
and Fresno State’s J’Quyra Moncur-Blue
have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 14-20. This is the first honor for both.
Cleveland, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz. (Desert Vista HS), broke a school record while winning the 400-meter hurdles at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Arizona last weekend. Her time of 1:00.60 leads the WAC and is a personal best. Cleveland also finished first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.29, which ranks second in the WAC. She also helped the Aggies’ 4x100m relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 46.74 and the 4x400m relay team to a fourth-place finish with a WAC-leading time of 3:48.54.
Moncur-Blue, a sophomore from Miami, Fla. (East Side HS), heaved a personal and WAC-leading mark in the hammer throw at the USC Trojan Invitational over the weekend. She marked a throw of 188 feet, two inches (57.36 meters) for an improvement of three feet from her previous best set at the NCAA West Regional in 2010. Moncur-Blue’s mark tops the WAC by over eight feet and currently ranks eighth in the nation.
