OKHREMCHUK NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nevada’s Michelle Okhremchuk has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for March 14-20.

A freshman from Doneck, Ukraine, Okhremchuk went 2-0 in Nevada’s only match last week, winning at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in the Wolf Pack’s 4-3 win over Hawai’i. In singles, she picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 87 Katarina Poljakova. At No. 1 doubles, she and partner Florence De Vrye defeated Poljakova and Barbara Pinterova, 9-7.

Other nominees included: Victoria Lozano, Idaho.

WAC IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the March 22 ITA rankings, two WAC teams were ranked in the top 75. Boise State came in at No. 70, while Fresno State is No. 73.

Fresno State and Hawai’i each have one singles player ranked in the top 125. Marianne Jodoin is currently ranked No. 99 for the Bulldogs, while Katarina Poljakova of the Rainbow Wahine is No. 109.

There are currently no doubles teams in the WAC ranked in the top 100.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE
The 2011 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 27-May 1 in Boise, Idaho.

Top-seeded Boise State earned its first-ever WAC Women’s Tennis Championship last season with a 4-3 win over No. 3-seed Fresno State in the title match. The Broncos’ victory ended the Bulldogs streak of eight straight titles.
