The Broncos used a 12-run fourth inning to open WAC play with a 13-0 win over the Wolf Pack Friday. Kelly Sweeney was 2-for-3 and drove in a run to lead Boise State. Aubray Zell picked up the win, throwing 4.0 innings and striking out three. Mallary Darby took the loss.
Fresno State 2, Louisiana Tech 0
Fresno State built a midgame lead and never looked back for a WAC-opening 2-0 victory over Louisiana Tech Friday night in Ruston, La. Michelle Moses ripped a fourth-inning double as Fresno State struck first and added an insurance run in the fifth. Mackenzie Oakes tossed her second complete-game shutout of the season, while Meghan Krieg suffered the loss, despite striking out seven.
New Mexico State 7, San Jose State 6 (8)
Hoku Nohara hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Aggies a 7-6 win over San Jose State in both teams' WAC opener Friday in Las Cruces. NM State belted 16 hits in the win, including four extra-base hits. Celisha Walker earned the win in the circle. Jennifer Ames threw a comlplete game for the Spartans.
Hawai‘i 5, Utah State 2
The Rainbow Wahine opened WAC play with a 5-2 win over the Aggies Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Stephanie Ricketts fired her 20th complete game of 2011 and picked up her 14th win with eight strikeouts. She also hit her first home run of the season. Utah State starter Mandy Harmon fired 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
