KLAMCZYNSKA NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boise State’s Sonia Klamczynska has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 21-27.

A junior from Warsaw, Poland, Klamczynska helped Boise State to a 5-2 victory over No. 54 Oregon with wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. In singles, she came back to defeat Oregon’s Patricia Skowronski, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, she teamed with Elyse Edwards to beat the Ducks’ Julia Metzger and Trudie Du Toit, 8-6. Klamczynska has won seven of her last 10 singles matches and is now 21-12 on the season.

Other nominees included: Marianne Jodoin, Fresno State; Magdalena Ploch, Hawai‘i; Vivian ten Dolle, Louisiana Tech; Florence De Vrye, Nevada; and Ros-Polly Nguyen, New Mexico State.

WAC IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the March 29 ITA rankings, Boise State is the lone WAC school in the top 75, coming in at No. 67. Meanwhile, Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin is currently ranked No. 79. There are currently no doubles teams in the WAC ranked in the top 100.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE
The 2011 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 27-May 1 in Boise, Idaho.

Top-seeded Boise State earned its first-ever WAC Women’s Tennis Championship last season with a 4-3 win over No. 3-seed Fresno State in the title match. The Broncos’ victory ended the Bulldogs streak of eight straight titles.
