Louisiana Tech 86, Boise State 72
Brietta Thomas drained seven three-pointers as the Lady Techsters clinched at least a share of the WAC regular-season title with an 86-72 win over Boise State Thursday. With the win, LA Tech improves to 22-6 overall and 14-1 in conference play. The Broncos drop to 12-17 on the year and 3-12 in the WAC.
Louisiana Tech shot 41 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line on the game. Boise State connected on 43 percent from the field, 38 percent from downtown and 88 percent from the charity stripe. The Techsters won the rebounding battle, 43-38.
Thomas led all players with a career-high 28 points, followed by Adrienne Johnson, who posted a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Boise State was led by Lauren Lenhardt with 19 points. Kati Isham added 13 points, Diana Lee added 12 and Janie Bos was just shy of a double-double, tallying 10 points and nine rebounds.
Fresno State 73, San Jose State 47
San Jose State was eliminated from contention for the WAC Tournament with a 73-47 loss to Fresno State Thursday. Fresno State improves to 22-7 overall and 13-2 in the WAC with the victory, while the Spartans drop to 2-26 on the season and 2-13 in conference play.
Fresno State shot 38 percent from the field, 32 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line on the game. San Jose State connected on 40 percent from the field, 29 percent from downtown and 63 percent from the line. The Bulldogs edged the Spartans on the boards, 34-33.
Hayley Munro paced the Bulldogs with 25 points, while Taylor Thompson added 16.
A.J. Newton led the Spartans with 17 points.
Idaho 73, New Mexico State 65
The Vandals shot a season-high 54 percent en route to a 73-65 road victory over New Mexico State Thursday. With the win, Idaho improves to 14-13 overall and 7-8 in WAC play. The Aggies drop to 12-17 on the season and 6-9 in the conference.
The Vandals made 25-of-46 field goals and shot 44 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line. NM State connected on 40 percent from the field, 11 percent from beyond the arc and 71 percent from the charity stripe. The Aggies out-rebounded Idaho 37-30.
Yinka Olorunnife posted her 14th double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Rachele Kloke added 12 points, while Derisa Taleni had 11.
Tabytha Wampler paced NM State with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Madison Spence finished with 16 points and Danisha Corbett added 11.
Hawai`i 72, Utah State 71 (OT)
The Rainbow Wahine overcame a 21-point deficit to defeat Utah State 72-71 in overtime Thursday. With the win, Hawai`i improves to 11-18 overall and 5-11 in the WAC. The Aggies drop to 15-13 on the season and 9-6 in WAC play.
The Rainbow Wahine shot 45 percent from the field, 57 percent from three-point range and 63 percent from the free throw line on the game. Utah State connected on 40 percent from the field, 27 percent from beyond the arc and 62 percent from the charity stripe. Hawai`i edged the Aggies 42-38 in rebounds.
Kamilah Jackson notched her 12th double-double of the season with 21 points and 19 rebounds, both team highs. She set the freshman single-season rebounding record and moved into fifth place all-time at UH with 323 rebounds. Megan Tinnin added 18 points, while Keisha Kanekoa added 16.
Utah State's Banna Diop also had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Ashlee Brown had 17 points.
