DENVER
– Idaho’s Barry Britt and Louisiana Tech’s Larry Jones have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 11-17.
Britt, a junior from Hampton, New Brunswick, Canada (Georgia State), ran Idaho’s fastest 5000m in nearly 30 years and the fastest WAC time in the last five years. Britt placed ninth in the ‘B’ section of the 5K at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday with a time of 14:08.90 that puts him at second all-time at Idaho in the event. The time also marks the best mark in the WAC by more than five seconds this season and ranks 39th in the West Region and 73rd nationally. He also competed in the 1500m on Saturday at the Beach Invitational, where he posted a season-best time of 3:55.71 and finished 32nd overall.
Jones, a senior from Ruston, La. (Ruston HS), continued to improve upon his WAC-leading mark in the discus, adding two inches to advance his mark to 186-0 while competing at the Northwestern State Invitational on Saturday. Jones also threw 176-11 in the hammer, ranking sixth in the WAC this year, and recorded a mark of 196-11 in the javelin, the WAC’s fourth-longest throw of the season.
