MEGALE NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boise State’s Lauren Megale has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for April 18-24.

A senior from Boise, Idaho, Megale went undefeated on the week as the Broncos swept Hawai‘i. At No. 1 singles, she picked up her fourth-straight victory, defeating Katarina Poljakova in straight sets to improve to 5-0 against WAC opponents. At No. 1 doubles, she and partner Marlena Pietzuch defeated Barbara Pinterova and Poljakova, 8-2.

Other nominees included: Michelle Okhremchuk, Nevada; Manon Sylvain, New Mexico State; and Kristina Voytsekhovich, Utah State.

WAC IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the April 26 ITA team rankings, Boise State and Fresno State are ranked in the top 75, coming in at No. 70 and 72, respectively. Meanwhile, in the individual rankings, Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin is ranked No. 55. There are currently no doubles teams in the WAC ranked in the top 100.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE
The 2011 WAC Women’s Tennis Tournament will be held April 28-30 in Boise, Idaho. The host Broncos earned the top seed by virtue of their national ranking, edging Fresno State.

Top-seeded Boise State earned its first-ever WAC Women’s Tennis Championship last season with a 4-3 win over No. 3-seed Fresno State in the title match. The Broncos’ victory ended the Bulldogs streak of eight straight titles.
