Verizon WAC Men' Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Louisiana Tech’s Dennis Richardson and Boise State’s Eetu Viitala have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 28-April 3.

Richardson, a freshman from Pride, La. (Northeast HS) recorded a pair of WAC-leading marks last weekend at the Jim Mize Invitational in Ruston, La. Richardson’s winning 100-meter dash time of 10.34 seconds currently leads the WAC and ranks 15th in the nation. He also ran the first leg of the 4x100m relay that finished first in 40.21, a time that tops the WAC by nearly a full second and ranks 22nd in the nation.

Viitala, a junior from Kuortane, Finland (Kourtane HS) won the long jump at the All-Idaho Cup in Boise, Idaho over the weekend with a season-best leap of 25 feet, 0 inches (7.62 meters). His mark currently leads the WAC by over two feet and ranks sixth in the nation.

Other track nominees included: Rolando Trammel, Boise State; Sam Michener, Idaho; and Armahd Lewis, Utah State.

Other field nominees included: Lucas Pope, Idaho; Larry Jones, Louisiana Tech; and Clint Silcock, Utah State.
