POGOSTKIN NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boise State’s Filipp Pogostkin has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for March 28-April 3.

A sophomore from Bellevue, Wash., Pogostkin was perfect on the week, going 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles as the Broncos swept Montana State and Weber State in a pair of non-conference duals. He won both his singles matches in straight sets to improve to 14-14 on the year. In doubles, he and partner Andy Bettles posted wins in both matches to move their win streak to 10 straight.

Other nominees included: Remi Boutillier, Fresno State; Kristian Kuharszky, Nevada.

WAC IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the April 5 ITA team rankings, five WAC teams are ranked in the top 75. Fresno State is the highest ranked WAC team at No. 44. Boise State comes in at No. 51, Idaho is No. 54, Hawai‘i is No. 56 and New Mexico State is No. 69.

Individually, the WAC has five singles players ranked in the top 125. Arthur Surreaux of New Mexico State is the highest ranked WAC player at No. 75. Damian Hume of Boise State of Boise State is next at No. 107, followed by Marius Cirstea of Idaho at No. 110, Remi Boutillier of Fresno State at No. 115 and Dennis Lajola of Hawai’i at No. 122.

In doubles, the WAC has three teams ranked in the top 75. Fresno State’s pairing of Rikus de Villiers and Boutillier are the No. 17 duo, while Scott Sears and Hume of Boise State are ranked No. 56 and Jim Brouleau and Surreaux of New Mexico State are No. 75.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE
The 2011 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 29-May 1 in Boise, Idaho. Hawai’i, winners of three-straight WAC Tournament titles, defeated No. 2-seed Fresno State, 4-3 in last year’s tournament.
