Utah State’s Allison Lenzora and Mandy Harmon have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 25-May 1. This is the first-ever honor for both.
Lenzora, a freshman shortstop from Manteca, Calif., helped Utah State to its first four-win week of the season. The Aggies defeated Utah at home 12-2 (6) before sweeping Nevada on the road for its first WAC sweep since 2007. Lenzora hit .643 (9-for-14) with two doubles, a home runs, five RBI and 14 total bases. She scored seven runs and had at least one hit in all four games. In the win against Utah, she hit her first collegiate home run, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI. In the 13-3 win against Nevada, she drove in three runs with a double. In USU's 8-1 win, the infielder was 3-for-4 with another double and rounded out the series going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Harmon, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., pitched in three of the four Utah State wins last week, going 2-0 with a save. She posted a 0.70 ERA and eight strikeouts on the week. She earned the win in Utah State’s first victory over in-state rival Utah since 2008. She also earned the win to complete the doubleheader sweep against Nevada on April 29, pitching five innings, allowing just one unearned run and striking out four. Harmon then helped the Aggies complete their first three-game sweep of a WAC team since 2007 when she pitched three innings in USU’s 8-1 win over Nevada for the save.

New Mexico State’s Ashley Maroda hit .385 with two home runs last week … Amanda Schatz of San Jose State hit .600 with a .800 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage last week.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Boise State’s Allie Crump was 1-0 with seven strikeouts on the week … Nicole Angene of Fresno State recorded a 0.00 ERA in 1.1 innings of relief work … Hawai‘i’s Jenna Rodriguez went 2-0 in two relief appearances last week … Meghan Krieg of Louisiana Tech went 1-1 on the week with 11 strikeouts … New Mexico State’s Alex Newman allowed just three earned runs in 12.1 innings over two appearances with a 1.70 ERA … Jennifer Ames of San Jose State went 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA on the week.
