DENVER--With a victory over New Mexico State on Saturday, Hawai‘i claimed a share of the 2011 WAC regular season title. The Rainbows share the title with Fresno State. The co-champions each finished WAC play with a 17-7 record.
Hawai‘i claims its first title since 1992 when the team also won the WAC Tournament.
On Friday, with all of their conference games under their belt, the Bulldogs earned a share of the 2011 WAC regular season championship. It marked the sixth consecutive year the Bulldogs have claimed a title.
The conference title streak was historic for Fresno State head coach Mike Batesole, a two-time national coach of the year in his ninth season at Fresno State. Winning as many consecutive championships in a league only happened once before in Bulldog history. The Dogs won six straight Northern California Baseball Association titles from 1979-84.
The double elimination WAC tournament begins Wednesday, May 25, in Mesa, Arizona.
