NM State's Jones Named Academic All-American

New Mexico State outfielder Kandis Jones was named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team today.

A community health major with a 3.88 cumulative gradde-point average, Jones is a two-time all-WAC centerfielder who earned first team honors in 2011. She led the New Mexico State to a 44-17 record, the WAC regular-season and tournament championships and a berth in the NCAA Tucson Regional. A native of La Mirada, Calif., Jones batted .391 with 59 runs scored, 34 runs batted in and 11 doubles.

Jones is also a three-time member of the Academic all-WAC team and was recognized by NM State as the 2011 female Outstanding Athletic Scholar. She holds New Mexico State records for hits in a season (82), career hits (260) and career runs (175).
