– Nevada's
Samantha
Diaz
and Boise State's
Alexi Morton
have
been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and
Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 25-May 1.
Diaz, a sophomore from Shingle Springs, Calif.
(Ponderosa HS), set a school record on Sunday in the 1,500-meters at the Payton
Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
Her time of 4:23.01 is the top time in the WAC and 34th in the West
Region. She broke the previous school record
that was set in 2007.
Morton, a freshman from Auburn, Wash. (Auburn
Mountainview HS), won the heptathlon at the Idaho-Utah Border Clash over the
weekend. Morton won five of the seven
events (hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meters and long jump) and placed
second in the other two to score 4,618 points.
